As you can imagine after yet another disappointing season I am ready to get this thing kicked off. As we are now in the merry month of March do we have any dates in mind?

Matt,

No offense man, but can't a guy take a break?

I'm f'n swamped at work right now, I really can't devote the time I did last year to thoroughly examine the rules.

Brian's done a nice job in analyzing what needs to be cleaned up so far, how about we have him iterate it to the entire league and vote on things piecemail to clarify them once and for all?

As for off-season timeline, I don't remember what the rules state, but I can tell you all I'm gonna be out of the country and nowhere near any kind of internet access for 2 weeks in mid-April. Then I'll be swamped at work for a couple weeks to catch back up before having the time I need to devote to my leagues.

Our rookie draft isn't until May anyhow correct?

The only problem I may have is with the RFA period which I think starts April 1.

I won't be able to monitor it like I did last year, so we need somebody to step up on that front. As for any guys I may tag... oh well, if they don't sell before I leave so be it. I'll let em go and find some bargains later.

Thats MY timeline... whats YOURS?

According to the rules, the schedule is as follows:

4-1 to 5/15, RFA Free Agency bidding period
5/15 to 8/15, off season free agency
"About two weeks after NFL Draft"-our rookie draft.

I wouldn't have any objection to altering this schedule to fit Mike's schedule. We had a period of dead time at the end of last year's RFA period, so we probably don't need a full month and a half. The rookie draft could happen any time prior to the off season free agency, and we could delay the start of that as well a little bit without too much of an affect.

Mike, would you be able to come up with an alternative schedule that would work for you, and then the league could decide if we can go with that or not?

As for my rule change proposals, I'll try to put a clean document together later this week that will encompass my changes, and we can vote on them item by item (after any discussion).

That all sounds great Brian... I think we should officiale make you a part of the Rules Committee... seriously. Your input has been excellant.

As for my timeline, I'm not asking the league to change anything. I'm ok with the timeline as the rules state, I just have been too busy to really get into things just yet.

Matt, I apologize for being sarcastic and cranky, but you always seem to have an itchy finger in the off-season !

If I recall correctly, we wanted the RFA period to conclude BEFORE the rookie draft so teams can have a better idea of what they need when draft time hits.

If the RFA timeline is somehow pushed back, I'd say push it to May 1st, make it for 1 month, and set the rookie draft for June 1st. I'd suggest this change as being a permanent one too, we had an awful lot of dead time after the RFA period and draft concluded last year.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

If you were as unsuccessful as I have been in this league you would be looking for a chance to get going too. No offense taken, I am just trying to get going. I apologize for being pushy but darn it I want a shot at making the playoffs...

I'm okay with keeping it as it... but am flexible, too. June starts getting into various vacation times, which might affect internet access for some of us. Just a thought.

And FYI... You gotta get in line for the playoffs behind me this year, Matt! lol

I like the idea of moving everything back a bit, and shortening the various "periods" a touch. I've only been through it once, but it seems the RFA period was too long, and I think we alloted more time than necessary to the Rookie Draft. That seemed to go pretty quick.

I think we could consider making this a permanent change. Yes, my esteemed colleague from the islands does bring up a valid point that doing everything over the summer could bring vacations into play. I guess my thought is that just about any time during the year we have things going on, there is a good chance someone, out of the 12 of us, is going to be doing something that will make them unavailble for one reason or another (vacation, work, having a baby this July, or is that just me?).

Congrats on your new baby coming in July!!!

Depending on how long your wife's labor is, however, it shouldn't keep you out too long, right? Go for the epidural! Besides, once the baby comes, you won't be getting any sleep anyway... lots of time to spend online! lol

(Don't tell my wife I said that!)

Thanks for the congrats. This will be her third delivery (my boy is 15 months old, and I have a 5 year old stepdaughter). Her labor with my son lasted about 1 1/2 hours once the contractions started, and she only had to push twice. The worst she got was when she said, and I quote exactly, "goll, this hurts," and he was 9lb 15oz. I'm hoping for continued smooth sailing.

I don't know how much it will affect my monitoring of the free agency. I know i took the week off of work (tenatively starting whenever labor hits), so I'll just be hanging around home. I would assume I'd be able to check in occasionally, but not as often as during the season. (Maybe thats a good thing, as obviously my micromanagement didn't do me any good last season).

Sorry to hijack the thread. Please go about your regularly schedule FF discusion.

Haha think Mike is having it held hostage!

ANyways I'm okay for pushing back the dates to allow Mike to fully particpate.

I do agree that the RFA Period is a tad too long. Oh yeah.

I can honestly state I have NO CONTROL over the shipping of the trophy... thats all in Commish Jake's control. As I'm sure you all recall, Jake normally disappears for a couple of months after the season ends to focus on work and family (jeesh, now why the f**k can't I do that!!!

Of course we all no who really DESERVED the trophy... maybe Jake should send it to ME hehe! Just kidding... I'm sort of over it now, well, maybe not, but we're getting there :Banghead :toast:

I'll be rearing o go for the RFA and draft as usual... no worries

Since Mike confirmed that we do not need to adjust the upcoming dates for his schedule, and we haven't really agreed on any changing of the dates, we have the RFA period starting on 4/1. Can you believe that is only 2 weeks away? I believe last year we had a deadline of some sort to declare the players we were tending as RFAs. I don't recall if that was a week prior, or three days, or what it was. Anyone else recall? We should probably also make sure everyone has checked in and is aware (and make sure everyone is in for this season again).

I forget the exact times but I think it was a week or two in advance of the date. Since we missed the 2 week time frame maybe it should be 3/25 and we could start a thread just for RFA's to be declared.

I haven't had my Baseball draft and I"ve got to start prepping for football! N - I - C - E!

I don't know if everyone is keeping up with the board, so please be VERY CLEAR on the official times. I still see a lot of language that has "maybe's".

Looking forward to my 1st RFA event!

Jersey-
The trophy is engraved and waiting at the shop. I'm going to get it sent out SOON, I promise. Mike's right about work consuming me for a few months... unfortunately my family's been neglected as much as the FFFFL! Therefore, I am taking my wife away until the beginning of April, at which time I'm ready to get things rolling. I second the motion to get Brian on the rules committee, by the way.

I know you are all buys folks but it would be quite swell if we had the rosters updated and excel app. That way we could start planning for RFA period, FA, and the draft.

Oh yeah.

Man give a guy a break ... the 2003 app will be released in the next day or so, I'm almost done with it.

I'ver spent about 3-4 hours updating the pages for 2003. Several fields on each page have to be modified, along with quite a few formulas.

Be patient...!

I have a draft tracker spreadsheet for 2003 almost ready as well.

The files are pretty much done, but I have to modify links on the web pages and here on the board for the 2003 apps... too tired to do that tonight. I'll probably get to that tommorrow or over the weekend.

I've had them up since about 8:30am this morning ;)!

Frank, please see the "Updated Timeline" thread under "Rules and Bylaws." Due to the number of outstanding issues, and a number of owners yet to check in, we have moved back the schedule.
