Timeline question

Can I make a suggestion? Since we recently looked at and changed the date of our rookie draft I was wondering if it might make sense to do the same with announcing contracts?

The deadline for the announcement of the length of the contracts of players picked up in free agency or the rookie draft will be August 15th each year by midnight (the night before the start of the In-Season Free Agency period which begins on August 16 each NFL season). No player can be traded unless his contract years are declared BEFORE the trade is announced.

The first week of the pre-season will not even be complete this year as the NFL has pushed back the start of the season to September 9. Could we say two weeks prior to the NFL’s first game (this would be August 26 this year)? This would allow teams to actually see some pre-season action and get a better sense for what roles various players will have.

I totally agree and I thought I mentioned that in my timeline thread in the rules section about pushing certain timelines back and making them respective of certain periods in the NFL.

For example, I think that the date for DS declerations and contract years should be made a flexible date that occurs the day after the 3rd pre-season games have been played to allow us sufficient time to evaluate the rooks and out other players.

I agreed then and now. Of course I totally forgot about your post but I think moving some of these dates makes a lot of sense. Will these changes be officially added to the rules or do we need to vote?

I'd say we could state that unless anyone raises an objection prior to the start of the rookie draft, these changes will be accepted.

works for me, then just integrate them into the rules doc after May 10
