I think the fact that teams can place unlimited bids irrespective of their current cap leads to inflationary prices more than this situation, personally.

well at least i'm in cap heaven. boys are gonna have to pay some hefty prices for the last starting RBs left on the board because I can easily keep them all under cap. enjoy.

I agree. But, the thing is...because the rules ARE that way, that WAS some owners strategy - get who you want then bid up everyone else without care...

It's all about value. If a player is on the market at a value you perceive better than your paying, then you bid on a guy and cut or trade the existing guy. That's where folks mis-stepped IMO. We're not locked into our rosters. They are a fluid process, teams just didn't realize this initially.

Teams that overpaid early, will pay the piper eventually, and prices WILL come down to more realistic levels.

Aside from the RB prices being SKY HIGH, the auction has pretty much gone the way I expected.

Oh, I totally get that. This is just my annual rant against the rules being that way. This is my warning to get used to it.

Nice try at being cute and all, but this is already covered in the rules:

Quote:
6A. Active Roster Composition

Each team will have a maximum of thirty (30) roster slots for their Active Roster. All slots need not be filled. Of these thirty roster slots, eighteen (18) are dedicated to the following offensive positions: Quarterback (QB), Running Back or Fullback (RB), Wide Receiver (WR), Tight-End (TE), and Place Kicker (K). The remaining twelve (12) roster slots are dedicated to the following defensive positions: DL (including Defensive Ends and Defensive Tackles), LB (including Middle Linebackers and Outside Linebackers), and DB (Including Cornerbacks and Safeties). From year to year you will be able to keep any player still under contract. Further you will be able to tender contracts to 3 players as Restricted Free Agents each year according to the RFA rules.

Any acquisition that places you over the thirty (30) man roster limit without a move to get back to 30 or below will be placed in "pending" status for no longer than 24 hours. Teams will have a 24 hour grace period from the time of the acquisition that places them over 30 to get back down to 30 or fewer on the roster before penalties start to kick-in.

6B. Roster Minimums

Beginning with the 1st day of In-Season Free Agency, each team must maintain a minimum of 13 Offensive Players (IOP's) and 9 Defensive Players (IDP's) on their Active Roster. The 13 IOP and 9 IDP's can be any mix of positions within either side of the ball, as long as you have at least 13 on offense and 9 on defense. During the off-season(which commences after the Super Bowl, teams are allowed to be below these minimums.

Any move that places you under the 13 IOP / 9 IDP roster minimums without a move to get back to the required minimum within 24 hours will result in a permanent 250cb fine PER INFRACTION, as well as an additional 250cb temporary hold on your cap until you reach the required minimums for both sides of the ball. Again, these penalties are PER INFRACTION!
Whereas the Roster Minium specifies a start date of the In-Season Free Agency period, the Roster Max of 30 is not dependent upon any timeline. The answer is if you go over 30, you have 24 hours to get back to 30 or below.

No. Roster and cap maximums are always in effect.

Looks like it's the Swords week to go off the deep end.

Yup, it's a LONG auction, we've all been there. Heck, I was there a week ago.

Frank I don't mind being outbid on Brees as I couldn't afford both Brees and Chambers without cutting someone. If I win Chambers think that will put me at 19025 with still having to get 5 IOPs to meet minimum roster requirements.

You using that fuzzy Canadian math or something? There is NO conversion rate with our cap $'s! ;)

I have you at 18 players and 19,735 if you win Chambers. Leaving you 265 to get a minimum of 4 players, which obviously won't be enough.

that would be fun....if everyone bumps all 3 RBs (staley, suggs, and barlow) one more time, i just might make a run at it for shits and giggles.

oops, my bad. I still had Kerney on keepers roster. I'm the one with the fuzzy math.

I also like SA at the price as you know what you are getting. There are some RBs going for over a 1000 who won't end up being the starter and useless.

I like Brees at that price, if I get outbid on Chambers I may be back in on the Brees action :muhaha

As for it being advantagous, in what way? He still has to abide by the cap. By hoarding RB's, Frank missed out on bidding on players for nearly 2 weeks. Always being under the cap is enough of a deterrent. We have the entire off-season to build our roster, nowhere in the rules does it specify you must reserve cap space, nor should it IMO.

The regulation to keep teams in check is the cap. That you and Jake assumed you had to have space to meet the minimums is nobodies fault but your own. We've never forced teams to meet the minimums in the off-season in the Frenzy. Why would SAC'D be any different? By tieing up cap dollars, Frank inhibited his ability to acquire other players, that's penalty enough.
I haven't even made it through this thread tonight yet - but I want to make it clear that I never assumed I had to meet minimums. I've known the lack of limits we're playing with all along, I just think the fictitious market its creating is going to be a burden on the league in the short term.

I don't understand the lack of limits comments, isn't there a minimum requirement of 13 IOPs and 9 IDPs? Doesn't this have to be met by the time of the end of the auction? How is it an advantage to have to cut someone to meet these requirements and stay under the cap?

There are no minimums in the offseason. You do not have to be up to the min till sometime in Aug (forget the exact date).
