Cool, with my 1st pick being at 2.6, that means I'll have 19 days to debate, overanalyze, and stress over a player who will likely NEVER see the active roster.

There's always an exception or two... but what I've come to believe in this league... is that once you get past the first round (sometimes even earlier than that), there's not much of a chance the players you pick up are ever going to do much of anything for your team. This is not a cynical outlook, just reallly a pracitcal one. This league is won & lost with the RFA/UFA periods (and mid-season pickups!). The rookie draft is a whole lot of fun while we're doing it... but not a lot else (unless, of course, you have the 1.01 and 1.03 picks in the same year!).

We have rules to help it move along. The rules say we don't officially begin for another week. That's cool. However, should you feel comfortable enough making a pick early to get the fun going, that's great too.

But as Mike said earlier... it's just a game. Let's enjoy it.

Hey, I have gotten some decent WR's in the second (Roddy White and Greg Jennings) and third (Brandon Marshall). Of course those were picks that were early in the rounds since my teams usually stink. Crap maybe that proves your point:)

I'm not saying there aren't good players to be found... but the majority of the players that are picked up after the first round will not become guys we'll be counting on in our starting lineups. Role players, maybe.

Greg Jennings is a GREAT example of the exception. He's definitely quality. R.White and Marshall have still to make a name for themselves as consistent solid WRs, in my opinion.

A woman called police to report Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver James Hardy was beating his father and had pulled a gun.

Fort Wayne police spokesman Michael Joyner said Tuesday no charges were filed because Hardy was gone when officers arrived and Hardy's father did not want to press charges after the incident Sunday afternoon.

The police report quoted the elder Hardy as saying his son has a lot of anger toward him because he was in prison when his son was young.

Neither Hardy nor his agent, Eugene Parker, immediately responded to phone messages seeking comment.

The 6-foot-6 receiver left Indiana a year early to enter the NFL draft and was picked by the Bills in the second round last month.

And he hasn't even played a down yet - probably lucky that his deadbeat father has declined to press charges.

I am guessing this goes to the character concerns that folks referenced for Hardy before the draft. Kind of reminding my of Chris Henry with his size, skills and off field issues

I'm bothered much more by the fact that yet another idiot athlete was packing a weapon. That shit only leads to BAD things.

The animosity between Hardy and his father is well established. Who knows the real story, or why he pulled the gun. I'm more bothered he's carrying a gun in the first place.

I've left a PM with Matt... not sure when he'll be back online. I'll be at my office for another 20 minutes... then off to take my son to soccer practice. I'll be back online tonight after dinner (approximately 2am EST) and will be happy to make my final 2 picks in the 2nd round, if Matt gets to his later tonight.
