2nd Year RB Rushes to Active Squad
AP In the last press conference before gameday Coach Frank Alonzo announced that 2nd Year RB Brian Westbrook would be placed on the Active Squad in hopes that he could start for Sunday's Game against the Indiana Undead. When asked why the 2nd Year RB was promoted despite an RB corps running 4 deep Coach Alonzo replied, "Well now is as great a time as any. He's showed the past four games he can find his way to the endzone even against a tough D like Dallas, so how much more against the lowly Jets? Plus Gordon is gimping around and the match up for backs like Eddie and Pittman aren't too thrilling." So how confident does Coach Alonzo have starting the 2nd year RB for the first time in such a pivitol game. "Well let me tell you, Doug, Bubba, and Hall all can't play this week. So I'm already down a ransom against the Undead. This game is make or break for the direction of the team for the rest of the season. So why not have someone who will be an intergal part of that future decide the game?" And Coach Alonzo couldn't be truer. Guided by 9 year veteran Steve McNair the rest of the projected starting lineup's average NFL experience is just a little under 3 years. The eledest of the group is Burress at 4 years and the youngest going to the 2nd Year Backfield of Portis and Westbrook with 2 years apiece. Falling right in the middle is Robinson and Smith each with 3 years to their credit. When asked for one of his famous gurantees Frank ALonzo could only offer, "No, no gurantee this week. This team is too young and they don't need any more preassure placed upon them. They already have enough. However I'm fairly confident we can escape with a victory if all goes well." NOTES: The Insects cut RB Mike Anderson and WR James Thrash earlier this week to make room for the acquisition of WR Steve Smith. It is rumoured that Jerry Porter may stay on IR for the rest of the season but he is still schedule to be cleared for play by Week 10.
