Look at the extreme. How fast would a player sell if there was only one on the market at a time? People wouldn't stand for a 23rd hour raise. The fewer the players, the more quickly people theoretically should act.

That's an interesting thought. You'd almost force the accountability of getting bids in as fast as possible.

As for the nickel and diming, I think it will pick up a bit, but if I am at the upper end of a scale, or feel others are, I'm not throwing out 100 bucks to overbuy just to get my guy. The point of an auction is to get him and get him as cheap as possible.

Maybe there is some kind of rule change to think over if we feel n&d'ing is slowing things down.

no rule change is needed. this is typical for a start of an auction league.

position prices have not been established yet. once we get closed auctions in each of the positions things should pick up because prices are established and people have less :bling :bling.

this is exactly what happened in CDL 3 years ago. no need to panic and change rules

I think the market is still establishing itself. There are guys out there that I'm not certain if I should let sell or not. Spike for example, been debating keeping him in play all night. I probably will bump him to do more research.

Eh, I don't know if there is anything to be done about it. I'm coming to accept it. I'll play the game if that's whats going to be played. It's not like we're all in the same room, and can police things. Live auctions are much different, I just have to get used to playing it differently.

Looking at the Frenzy prices I thought that LT was under priced. However, your logic doesn't make any sense since 18 players are drafted in Frenzy and 30 in Sac'd. Defensive players on avg will go for less than offensive players so LT will be ?? % of your offensive budget?

Ahhh, don't divulge this crucial information.

Oh trust me, I am well aware of the impact this type of contract will have on my ability to sign other players. Willingness to adjust the rest of my team, especially since I already have a quality RB2 in camp at a bargain (assuming a lot here of course, but nothing out of TB has dispelled my assumptions), is part of the game plan...:burt out!

Anyone want to make any predictions as to what time the next bid will come in on Manning?

I'll take the under on 1 hour prior to his bid expiration.

The current theme seems to be someone will log on multiple times between now and when he's due, never bid on him until they see he's at the bottom, and then, "Hey, I can't let someone sell, let me up this bid..."

And the problem with that is?

Seriously, it happens in the CDL every year (Frenzy too for that matter).

I think the crying about the late bids is getting :lame BTW.... there are several strategies to use when participating in an auction.

A key one, is to let a bid float, but hope that someone else keeps the player alive, if not, you then have to debate... at x price, do I want that player to sell, or would I rather have the player for y dollars more. If you choose the later option you bump and keep a guy in play, knowing that if nobody else raises the bid you get the player in question for just a few $'s more, if not you let them sell.

This is all about feeling out what your limits are, and to be honest, I walk into auctions with NO written overall plan (just a mental one). I go by gut, decide what my limits are (by gut again), and revise the mental image of my plan as needed.

We are in the early stages of a new league, player values are anything but established, and figuring out a players ceiling is still a personal debate for all of us.

I'll quit on the lame bids if no one else mentions n&d'ing until July. :surrender

Both have strategy, one just is thoroughly more annoying to me than the other.

I personally, haven't bitched once about the nickle and dime bids. I think they're a legit strategy.

This will be my last comment on nickel and dime bidding.

They may be a legit strategy at some point, but when it is a bid on a player with a hypothetical market value of at least 2000, and you up a 750 cb bid by 5 cb, and it's not a last minute bid to keep the player alive, what is the legitimacy of the bid? That's a rhetorical question, and my last comment.

You can't be serious... using your scenario, if I see an extremely undervalued player about to sell way below my perceived market value, of course I'm going to bump, and I'm going to do it by as small a margin as possible seeing as the rest of the teams seemed ready to let the player undersell. Why overpay in that case?

I'd also say why wait until late, do it at 12-15 hours. Everybody has checked in by then. But I said I keep quiet...

ya'll should've set the min. raises a good deal higher IMO. would've made .05 n .10 ing a little less so, and I don't really see that the loss of flexibility in what you bid would hurt anyone.
