According to league sources the Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects, the defending champions, are interested in moving Ricky Williams. The move seems to make sense as the Insects GM, Frank Alonzo, has stated that the Insects are in a transition year.
Sources have commented that Frank Alonzo believes that rookie RB Cliton Portis has progressed sooner than expected and seems ready to carry the team. Coupled with the fact that 3rd year RB Thomas Jones has shown signs of improvement to go along with his low cost contract.
It is said to be believed that Ricky Williams is hesitant to resign with the club after his contract runs up, even with the Restricted Free Agent tag. The club is looking to add some draft picks, a young qb and wr in return for Williams' as his return to the team for the 2003-2004 season and beyond seems questionable.
When Frank Alonzo was questioned about the rumours at the press conference, he simply stated, "Ricky Williams currently is a Bloodsucking Insect and we are glad to have him."
Ricky Williams and his agent were unavailable for comment.
