5 player min TE/K/D rule... 2/3 the league flirting with violation
If the season started today, 9 of the 12 teams would be violating the 5 player minimum TE/K/D rule. Of those 9, 3 are most definatly in trouble and need to make some cuts to create cap space to accomodate the minimum # of players or the roster penalties that would be assessed if they are in violation come the start of the season. A 4th team is also short the cb's necessary to get in compliance (that would be mine by 1 cb).
![]() Highlighing the "in trouble" list: Royal Hawaiian Opihi - Jim's squad is short 3 players at these positions (including presently having 0 K's) and he has only 22 cb's to play with which means he's got to free up 278 cb's at a minimum (ouch)! Jersey Toxic Waste - Kyle's squad currently only has 3 TE/K/D, making him 2 players short, and are only 5 cb's under, meaning Kyle needs to free up a minimum of 195 cb's (somethings gonna have to give)! Urza's Ragers - Rich's team is short 2 players at these positions and he has only 110 cb's to play with making him at least 90 cb's short (not nearly as painful as the other 2 teams, but still not pretty)! Parkwood Predators - My team is short 1 player at these positions and I have only 99 cb's to play with making me short at least 1 cb (All part of my master plan)! 5 others are currently short the mandatory minimums, but they all have the cap space to accomodate at least minimum salary players at these positions, or can promote from within (like I plan to). So what's the deal guys? The season is only about 1 1/2 months away! I know there was limited discussion about potentially changing this rule, but in the end, nothing was completed, and the 5 player minimum TE/K/D rule is still in effect. So consider this a heads-up to make sure you get in compliance! Everyone still has plenty of time to do so, but for the 3 teams above it's gonna come with some pain! BTW, some TE/K/D stats thus far: 1 team currently does not have an active roster TE (Squirrels) 4 teams currently do not have an active roster K (Highlanders, Insects, Opihi, Squirrels) 1 team currently does not have an active roster DT(Ragers) 3 teams are 3 players short of the 5 player TE/K/D minimum (Highlanders, Opihi, and Squirrels) 3 teams are 2 players short of the required minimum (Ragers & Toxic Waste) 4 teams are 1 player short (Freedom, Insects, Mutts, Predators) 3 teams are currently compliant (Derby Cars, Dodgers, and Swords)

Im in still in favor of the rule.
It does it job with out already limited rosters and the values of players and team managers have had 2 or 3 years to get used to the rule. So Jim, Kyle, and Rich mismananged their teams and now we should bail them out? There's a reason we added 500 cbs to the salary cap when we introduced this rule... so that teams could afford back ups. If they choose to ignore the fact than whose fault is it? We should not bail them out for using the extra cbs on other roster spots instead of backups. The rule was introduced because teams were short back ups on TE/K/D because as a semi dynasty league most owners choose to bypass backups a these positions to stash players. So we added 2 more roster spots and 500 cbs an average of 250 per extra slot... more than enough to fill backups. The problem here lies within the in-season when teams cut TE/K/DEF but are unable to acquire a replacement due to bidding and having to meet the requirements within 24 hours. Which is a tough balancing act and only takes two or three bids before the team is SOL. In order to solve this problem and Mike and I talked about this before is allowing teams the whole week, until Saturday to fill the TE/K/DEF slots, instead of having a 24 hours complience. This would not extended to the other spots but only to the 5 TE/K/D. But really... you need a backup K for a bye week. Start bidding the previous week. Simple as that. I feel that this rule serves it purpose and does it well. If teams want to get rid of the rule (don't understand why) then we should subtract the two extra roster spots and the 500 cbs, back to the 10000cb cap as those were added to back up those spots.

Frank, I have made a calculated decision to manage my roster in this way. I never asked to have the rule changed, nor have I advocated needing to be bailed out. Third, I'm fine with the league the way it is, but I am in favor of Frank's prior suggestion of filling bye weeks during the season by the end of the week (rather than the mandated 24-hour window)... FWIW. Training camp is where the Opihi will settle on their core roster and then make appropriate changes to comply with all the wonderful rules of this league. ;) |

I have to say though, the Vanderjagt cut had me confused, since it cost you 25 cb's to cut him and only free'd up only 100 cb's as a result, which you'll need to replace him anyhow! I guess it buy's you additional evaluation time, to each his own! BTW, I'm looking forward to our week 1 matchup!
