Vet Auction Timeline - should we shorten the hours till a player is sold?
With 48 hours from the last bid for each player to sell, this Vet Auction may literally take all summer. If every team filled thier entire roster, we'll be bidding on upwards of 360 players. At a minimum 240 players will be bid on. Do the math, September may be unrealistic.
![]() Should we consider a shorter time limit? Maybe 24 hours for bids made Sunday through Thursday, and 48 hours for Friday and Saturday bids? :feedback |

I'm cool with 24 hours, but can we just suspend the weekend clock? I'm all for moving the thing along, but I don't like the idea of people winning bids by cathcing people sleeping on the weekend. If we bump it up to 24 hours, it would more than make up for it.

FYI - I think this would have to a unanimous vote since the auction has started already.

can we wait until after memorial day? if not i'll be even more screwed as i will more than likely be without any internet access from next Monday through Memorial Day (in the mountains outside of Asheville, NC). if not I'll have to find a way to survive. if we can get a decision today that will give me some time to plan for the time i will be gone and have a friend fill in for me. sorry.

Now as for Memorial Day weekend, I can see a pause thru Monday for that (though I'll be around). |

So those auctions (if no other bids are place) would close 24 hours later at Midnight. |

the 24 hour clock is fine by me. I always get screwed up with handling the weekends but another option might be to increase the minimum bids. $5 bids can be thrown out to keep a player in play and that can allow things to drag on. Not sure what increments might make sense but it is another option.

Now, as for Brian's question to Pat... how about a 48 hour clock through Memorial day, and then changing to a 24 hour clock on May 31'st with a weekend pause? |

I am fine either way with the 24 or 48 hours, the 24 clock wasn't going to be a huge difference (and if things keep up, will mean very little as most guys will average being on the blocks for a few weeks I would assume). Again, anyone I have an interest in will just get a small bid while I am away to "keep them alive." |

I agree we should shorten it to 24 hours. Seems realistic to get things finished. I'd rather do it now, rather than wait until late June to decide we aren't going to make it.

I am also in favor of going to 24 hours. However, weekends are a different manner ... like the idea of any bid made over the weekend counting as being made at 12:01 Monday morning (or Sunday night depending how you look at it).
The question then is when does the weekend start? Also for weekends would the clock then just be suspended from that start of the weekend until 12:01 Monday? As an example say we had a cut off as 6 pm Friday for the weekend, when would a guy be considered sold for a bid made in the following scenarios? 7 pm Thursday ... assume at 1 am Monday morning 5 am Friday ... assume at 11 am Monday morning 5 pm Friday .... assume 11 pm Monday night 6 pm Friday or later, anytime Saturday or Sunday, etc ... assume 12:01 am Tuesday morning In the above situations if someone is away for 3 days over the weekend they are probably okay but if are away for 4 days then they may not be able to get a bid in that they wanted but don't see how we can avoid this. So in your scenarios they would end: 7 pm Thursday ... Friday at 7pm 5 am Friday ... Monday at 5 am 5 pm Friday .... Monday at 5 pm 12:02 am Saturday or later, anytime Saturday or Sunday, etc ... Tuesday at Midnight This just made the math a lot easier to keep track of. |

As far as people being gone for extended periods of time, I would assume just about everyone is going to experience this. You either have to have a proxy, or get yourself to a computer, or you lose out. There's nothing we can do about this. I know I will miss time due to vacation, but those are the brakes. |

If we suspend on weekends, that would be at 12:01am Saturday till 11:59pm Sunday. Also, ALL times are Eastern time. IMO, weekend bids are the only bids that we would treat as starting at 12:00am on Monday morning. All others should be 24 hours from their bid time, with Friday bids closing at the same time on Monday. |

If it's possible to keep the 48 hour clock through memorial day and then start the 24 hour clock on or after memorial day, it would work out for me. if possible and everyone is cool with that, if not i'll find a friend who can try to wing it for me while i'm in the boondocks. Quote:

I like stopping it at midnight and then picking up the clock again on Sunday morning. It's just easier.
Also, as far as going away, not being available, etc.: I agree with Nittany Dodgers, it's up to you to make a way to deal with it. That's the way it goes. Otherwise, with summer vacations, we will be stopping or changing the clock every other week. |

Saturday at 12:01 am (Friday midnight) sounds good to me as it does keep the math simple as the clock would simply be suspended for 48 hours until Monday at 12:01 am.
I agree that everyone is going to be affected by holidays, etc. and those are the brakes. Don't think we should start making exceptions for various weekends, I especially feel strongly about this since I am in Canada and some our of holidays are different ... this weekend is a long weekend for us, not the weekend after, July 1st vs July 4th, Labor day is the same but hope we are done by then

not to complicate matters, but why not implement the 24 hour clock for this week, stop on Friday midnight, and then start after memorial day. We'd really get the benefits early on of having the short clock this first week (it is only Tuesday).
