1.17 TE Heath Miller (Pit)

Miller replaces Dallas Clark (sent away in the deal for 1.1) as our developmental TE. I had a need at TE for both now (as a backup) and in the future (Crumpler only has 1 year left on his deal). Miller is the perfect fit.

At 1.13, I was debating Fason, Jones, Miller, and another as yet undrafted player. I decided to gamble by trading downwards hoping to get 1 of them, though my primary goal was Heath (figured the others would go for sure). I was going to wait till 2.1 to take Miller, but I got nervous the Frenzy's biggest TE backer (Brian) might snag him over one of the RB's. So I tried hard to move up to 16 (with Frank) or 17 with Jake to get my hands on Heath before Brian could at 18.

Reading up on him only sells me more on the idea. Miller is compared to Todd Heap by many, with the size of Jason Witten. Though the Steelers in the past tended to have their TE's stay back and block, I think it's a different story with Heath. The guy is a huge target with great hands, going to a system with a 2nd year QB who will be able to utilize him as an outlet. He has NO competition in front of him for the starting gig. I love his situation.

I look forward to having Heath being a key component of my team for the next 5 years.

With Cadillac Williams, Mark Clayton, and now Heath Miller in the fold, I'd say this draft has turned out far better than I might have expected! They'll form a nice solid foundation for the next generation Predators!
