This proposal is to move the declaration due date for RFA's to 3 days AFTER the NFL Draft, with the start of RFA bidding 4 days later (7 days after the NFL Draft). RFA bidding will still end May 31st each year.
This move allows teams to make adjustments to their RFA declarations after the impact of the NFL draft is known.

The only reason I'd be against this is because the NFL requires teams to declare their franchise tags well before the draft (for whatever reason) and it has a significant impact on a team's draft. I see that happening in SACD as well, so it does make things that much more realistic for us.

Basically, in Frenzy and SACD we have no control over an NFL team potentially drafting players that can impact our RFAs, whereas in the NFL, they generally draft around their RFA and UFA moves, not against them.

I guess I don't see the difference for us. NFL teams either tag a guy or not and then draft accordingly. So do we. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't believe NFL teams decide not to tag a guy based on the assumption that they are sure they can replace him through the draft. There are simply too many variables out of their control. Yes they take into account if the upcoming draft is rich in talent at the position they want, but I think tag decisions are based much more on fit and contract than they are on replaceability of the player in the draft.

Let me pout this another way, NFL teams generally teams don't tag a guy, agree to a big contract, and then draft a player to compete at the same position and thus hurt their RFA, whereas in SACD/Frenzy, we may be unaware that our RFA (who is likely under contract with their NFL team) may be on the outs with their team unbeknownst to us, and heck possibly even the player. So when an NFL team drafts that stud LB, DB or Edge out of the blue when many didn't see it coming (which happens often), it can greatly devalue a player. Conversely, when an NFL team DOESN'T draft a player at an apparent position of need (say to replace an aging or struggling RB, WR, LB, etc.), the player we may be tagging can increase in value as they look to have job security for another year.
On the flip side, who SACD/Frenzy teams draft has zero impact on an actual player's value. Drafting that stud RB may make one of your SACD/Frenzy RB's less valuable to you, but doesn't actually impact the players value in the NFL, or necessarily in SACD/Frenzy.

OK, so this passes.
The NFL Draft is from April 28th through April 30th, so RFA declarations are due this year on May 3rd, and RFA bidding will open in May 7th and end on May 31st. I'll adjust the timelines post to reflect

So looking at timelines, does it make sense to move the Soft cap end and Hard cap begin, TS Rollover and Franchise tags due, to be same date as RFA declarations coming due, like it was before this change?

I am updating the SACd rules - moving to Word and adding the past few years rule changes.
The Draft usually occurs Thurs-Sat, so to make this easier to document and follow I am updating this rule as to read: Tuesday following the NFL Draft at 11:59pm - RFA Declarations are due April 30rd at 11:59pm - Soft Cap Period Ends May 1st at 12:00am - Hard Cap Period Begins Saturday following the NFL Draft at 12:00am - RFA Bidding Opens If there are any concerns on the wording, let me know. |

Reading this statement and looking at last season's timeline thread, it looks like the Soft Cap end and Hard Cap start need to move to match the RFD Start Date. Burt, can you confirm... Tuesday following the NFL Draft at 11:59pm - RFA Declarations are due Friday following the NFL Draft at 11:59pm - Soft Cap Period Ends Saturday following the NFL Draft at 12:00am - Hard Cap Period Begins Saturday following the NFL Draft at 12:00am - RFA Bidding Opens |
