Okay, in my local league I started doing what I called a Power Poll (no this has nothing to do with Levitra or any other similar products).
Actually the idea came from a league I was in back in college. Instead of head to head games each week, every team played everyone else. In a 12 team league this meant that the top team went 11-0 and the worst team went 0-11. I then got a percentage number by taking the total number of wins possible (11 each week times the number of weeks played) and dividing that into the actual number of wins for each team. Since I noticed how my team has “allowed” my opponents an incredible 118 points a game I thought the Power Poll idea might be interesting here. I have done the Poll through week 7 (I will update it each week) and the results are a little surprising. The higher your percentage the better off you are doing. Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers--82% Royal Hawaiian Opihi--71% Urza's Ragers--64% Indiana Undead--64% Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects--60% Liquid Swords--51% Parkwood Predators--47% Philadelphia Freedom--45% Jersey Toxic Waste--42% RDP/Soap Box Derby Car--29% Nittany Dodgers--25% Wonder Mutts--22% Although this is meaningless in a head to head league like this I at least feel better knowing that the Freedom are not quite as bad as the record would indicate. Also, has anyone benefited more from their match-ups then the Toxic Waste? They don't win pretty but they certianly seem to win! |

I'd love to see those numbers for lkast season.
I bet they'll support my belief that Jersey was a fraud last year that got many fortuitous breaks. I don't see them finishing any higher than 3rd overall in that ranking system, maybe as low as 5th.

2002 regular season win total and Power Poll %:
Parkwood Predators-11-75% Hudson Valley Undead-11-68% Royal Hawaiian Opihi-7-62% Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers-9-56% Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects-7-54% Jersey Toxic Waste-7-52% Nittany Dodgers-7-51% Urza's Ragers-5-40% Philadelphia Freedom-4-39% Rabid Llamas-3-36% Wonder Mutts-7-34% Detroit Wyverns-6-33% Looks like Toxic Waste did alright (sixth overall). The Wonder Mutts really did well with their match-ups and the Wyverns benefited as well. |

Great stuff, your data supports my hypothesis that the 2002 Toxic Waste Championship was a sham!
I found it interesting that the Insects are beating my 75% mark of a year ago significantly with an impressive 82%. Nice job Joe (although I think Shaun Alexander's dirt cheap contact has a large role in that ;))

Here's the real way to test the sharks... head-to-headx12 each week! It marks consistency, depth & planning. The Opihi are all in favor of adopting this for next year!!! ;)

The Dodgers organization will support any poll that regards us anywhere better than 12th. Good work Matt!

I'm not too suprised by my ranking. Every year I'm in the thick of it but I've never been the power house teams like the Preds, Squirrels, and Ophi.
Great job. Would be interesting to see at the end of the year.

I love this kind of stuff. I'd be shocked if I finished the year rated that high though. And even though it is flattering to hear Frank refer to BDSC as a "power house" we would like to defer that label until we actually win a freakin playoff game!
This is our year though, I feel it in my bones! Mike, yes Shaun's cheap little salary saved us enough to keep players like David Boston and his amazing talents! What a steal. That reminds me, I think its time to put Boston on the block again.......... |

Any chance we could see the power rankings from 2001? I'd be interested in seeing that.

Let me just say something about the Sham theory given by the preds...
Look at any team in the league or any league for that matter and find someone who lost thier first 7 games and then won thier last 7 and had good numbers. The fact of the matter is I had 2 WR's up until week 8 when I picked up Keyshawn Johnson which totally changed my team and put me on the road to the championship. I dont think that's a sham...it's a great coaching job and great front office work for picking up the right player period!!! |
