Drops on Friday for players in games on Thur Night

Since this week is a serious deadline...what is the correct protocol for using a player in a Thur game and cutting them on Friday??? I intend to actually do this, but need to know if it is even legal to complete this action mid-week AND still have the player get his points for the week.

I'll spill the beans in whole....I intend to cut WR Colston due to his contract, but want to use him Thur for the game. This seems sketchy on some level to me and I did not find a specific rule that disqualifies this action. There was no mention that it was ok either. Soooo...any insight on this type of move would be appreciated from the leadership....

You can't cut a guy used in your starting lineup until the following Tuesday morning.

I should clarify, once the game starts, players on your roster are locked into that position until the week is complete. Thus you can't cut a guy who has been played until the start of the next week.

So with that being said - Why is there a date for an important league deadline during the season on a Friday (of all days). Why would this date not be a floating date (like after week 9 is complete) and changed to a Tuesday??? I understand it is the same for all owners, but this is ridiculous - in my opinion....

Am I alone in seeing this as a handicap and arbitrary? I guess there is a way to change it and I will look at the rules again to see when rule changes are up for debate and subject this arbitrary date for hard cap in season moves to change. If we are to "act" like the NFL in so many ways...well this isn't one of them and should change...

There is nothing I can find that supports your point of view on this subject...could you provide a reference or resource that shows this interpretation...

Rule 6A covers Active Roster Composition and does not mention this issue...
Rule 6D covers Starting Line-ups and does not mention placing players on waivers after the start of the current week...
Rule 6E covers Player Eligibility and does not cover this issue....
Rule 6F covers Starting Position and does not cover this issue...
Rule 7 Contract, Trades, and Cyber Bucks covers many areas...Rule 7F looked promising under Waiver Wire...this still does not cover the issue at hand....

With all that being said...I see no rule infraction for starting a player in a particular week and still being able to waive them in the same week especially since there is a league deadline in the middle of the week...I am not trying to be a pain, but this is an issue for my (horrible) team and as the manager I would like to proceed in the manner best suited to support my team under the rules provided....
It is not like this is an unfair move that I am about to make since everyone else can do the same thing...AND it is only one week/day in the WHOLE season....(BUT why couldn't this happen during the whole season due to the many Thur games?)

Mike is correct. It's been an issue that's come up before.
If the rules do not state it clearly, then that's something that needs to be addressed.
But once a player is active in an NFL game for the week, he's locked on your roster until the end of all NFL games that week.
If you'd like to cut a guy on Friday, don't play him on Thursday.
The rules were set long before the NFL started playing pre-Thanksgiving Thursday games.
But you bring up an important point that should be clarified in the rules.

Bottom line... if you'd like the advantage of cutting a player before the cap hit deadline this week, don't play him on Thursday.

I'm sure we can look up previous times this rule was discussed. I know I've argued against it in the past... but have come around to see why it's a fair ruling. However, doing so will take quite a bit of time. Probably not before the Friday deadline. So again, if you want to cut a player, don't start him Thursday.

So taking this further, since the rule was intended to be BEFORE week 9 games, then logically if we were to argue it should be before week 9 games, then it should actually be on Wednesday. In this light, not so ridiculous. While we do have a game before the deadline, the intent of the rule is still there.
