Thomas Out, George and Pittman In
AP Bay Area- Today the Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects announced the release of running back, Anthony Thomas. Thomas was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Brian Dead Squirrel Chasers when Frank Alonzo traded star RB Ricky Williams and Hall of Famer WR Jerry Rice, both were in the final year of their contracts and were expected to leave, to the BDSC for Thomas, Koren Robinson, and 2003 1st Draft Pick (Kyle Boller, 1.9). It is said that the Insects had never truly been behind Thomas and that an oversight in the rules by GM Frank Alonzo is the sole reason A-Train had been on the roster until this point. According to GM Frank Alonzo, "I thought that I could cut Anthony Thomas late in the season and absorb the whole cap hit but I found out that 10% of it would be deferred to this year. I always saw that trade as Robinson and 1st Rounder for nothing. Williams and Rice we're good as gone given our cap space." However it is said that the GM has approached Thomas with resigning with the club for a cheaper price. Thomas' time on the club was all but known once the Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects signed RB Eddie George for 1500 and all but finalized when they picked up troubled RB Michael Pittman for 315. "We are glad to add two good RBs too spell Portis. Eddie George is a human battering ram and we know he can still produce. I consider him a steal at 1500." said Frank Alonzo. The pickup of Eddie George is considered a solid move but there are those who question the acquisition of Pittman, who is facing felony charges which could land him in prison. "No doubt there is a huge risk that Pittman will never play a snap for the Insects but it is one definatley worth taking. If he ends up becoming our 3rd Runningback then it would have paid off and cheaply too ($315) and if he is arrested then it would only cost us what? One less video game for the players?" explained Frank. Upon further examination the Insects players may not lose a video game but instead have more cash to buy a brand new Gamecube and another video game. By cutting Thomas ($2530) they take a $506 cb penalty giving them $2024 of extra cap space. The acquistion of Eddie George and Michael Pittman will cost the Insects $1815 saving them about $209. If Pittman is cut from the team then they would still have an extra $461 to add to their current cap space of $1512. It seems as if the Insects might need to buy an extra Gamecube with two new RBs and more cash to spend.
