I have a 2 part question…
1) I picked up Mario Manningham (380/1) as a claim on a cut player. We are presently in the soft cap period. If I cut him he would normally cost me 38 cb’s this year and 38 cb’s in 2013 but since I am cutting a player I claimed I don’t get charged some of the penalty for cutting him (already paid when I picked him up). Do I not get charged 38 of the cb’s and my penalty is revised to 0 this year and 38 next year or does it go to 19 this year and 19 in 2013? 2) If I cut him is he elgible to be claimed by all 12 teams or just the 6 playoff teams (unlike free agent pick ups during the playoffs) and more importantly can he be RFA’d by team that picked him up or is he limited to this year only the same as free agents picked up. My take is 19,19 but I think we did 0,38 with me last year and only playoff team can pick up (others have rosters frozen) and he is elgible to be RFA’d next year since contract is assumed by new owner.

Rules state:
If the waived player is claimed, the waiving team receives a credit in the amount of 10% of the current years salary (the portion of the cap hit that does not pertain to the signing bonus) to their active roster salary cap. If the claimed player is subsequently released during the length of the same contract, the waiving team will receive a cap hit of only 10% of the current years salary, as the singing bonus is to be considered paid by the original team. If the player is claimed through the waiver wire, the second waiving team will receive the 10% cap credit, and essentially no penalty for releasing the player. ================================ So you will recieve a 10% cap hit, not 20%..so like you stated, cap hit will be 38cb, split between this year and next. 2nd question, that is the key, the rosters of NON playoff teams are frozen after week 14 games. I don't see why a player cannot be claimed by a playoff team. Rules state: Finally, rosters are frozen at the beginning of the week 14 games for non-playoff teams, and the minute a team is eliminated from the playoffs or wins the Frenzy Bowl, whichever comes first. Any players acquired by playoff teams between weeks 14 and 17 may only be assigned 1 year contracts and CANNOT be declared as RFA's the following season.

Actually a good question.
I think we need to discuss the "who can claim a cut player" issue. In my mind, rosters are frozen from FA acquisitions. If someone cuts a player, and a team wants to claim him, regardless of wheter they're in the playoffs or not, I'd say that should be allowed. And this has NOTHING to do with the fact that I'm not one of the playoff teams this year. The waiver wire order is in place. If a team wants to use its claim on a player cut during the playoffs, that's fine. There is no renegotiation in our league, so the team making the claim is stuck with whatever the contract salary & years are. But as Burt has pointed out, the rules say "rosters frozen"... so we'll have to abide by that at this point. However, I'd like to address this in the offseason and see how the rest of the league feels. |

... just making sure I squeezed every drop of cb money from my roster to extend the Miles Austin bidding with this weeks playoff opponent. Unfortunately my "empty" light just came on!!!
