Congrats to all the 2011 winners!!!
This is my 1st off season in SAC'D so here go some newby ???'s... Is there any restrictions about WHEN (time frame) you can reneg players? I imagine there is not as long as you stay within the roster, years, and salary cap restrictions. I am guessing that if an owner wants to reneg a player on his post 2011 roster that he has to do so before the March 31st new season rollover (when years go -1 and raises kick in). In my case, for instance I have 2 to 4 guys with 2 year contracts presently that I would like to reneg BUT since i am sitting on max year fence then I would have to make some cuts AND take the soft cap hit before the 2012 changeover date. At changeover date they would have their years reduced by 1 and raises would kick in on 2011 salary plus bonus (if any) plus reneg cost then 10%...is that correct? I'm basing this on rulebook and Preds historical posts. Fortunately for me I have a number of overpriced players (especially on defense) with multiyear contracts so I have a large pool to choose from...I am looking for clarification so I don't cut anyone I don't need to (and confirmation that the window to reneg hasn't passed).

I believe you are on the right track as I understand your explanation. In the end, you have to be within the roster, years and salary cap for the 2011 year after you reneg the players. Maybe one of the SACD vets can confirm this but I believe you thoughts are correct.

You are correct. I will also point out (sorry if this is obvious) that we are in the soft cap period right now, meaning any cuts you make will be spread 50-50 salary cap-wise between 2011 and 2012.

Yes John, you are correct. You need to reneg players who have 2 years or more before the April 1 salary/years rollover date. You can do it on any player prior to the year they would roll to 1 year on April 1st, but it makes the most sense to wait until the offseason prior to the time it will roll to 1 year. But technically, you could reneg a player with more than 2 years left if you wanted to .
You need to have the room for both increased salary and years on your 2011 and 2012 rosters as you stated.
