Effective 12/31/08 my host will be ending support for sql4 database, which is the database used by the version of vbulletin I own a license to.
I am basically faced with 2 options: A - Upgrading and reinstalling the latest version of vbulletin software which runs on sql5 (which will cost $60 for a 1 year support renewal to download the current version), plus a boatload of time to install and configure or B - Close up shop In light of the fact that I no longer have a personal use for these boards, option B will be my choice unless someone in Frenzy or SACD wants to take over all the admin of them, including the migration to the new database format. Plan accordingly guys. This is like saying good bye to an old friend (or in this case 20 something old friends), but it's the next step I'll be taking. ![]() Mike

I would be willing to help defray the costs each year. Split amoungst the 2 leagues, we must have about, what 14 individual owners? So shouldn't be more than $10 a piece to keep it rolling......just need to find someone who understood what Preds just said, and can do the techie side of things...

Nah, we'll just have to find another site that can host a bulletin board.

So, does anyone understand what Preds Option A entails and has the ability to perform the task at hand?
If not, I presume we lose the history of these boards, but I am on 2 other boards that can handle our leagues, so we can continue on those if need be.

Before Preds does any kind of research to see what it will take to upgrade, we need to committ to whether we all want to pay around $10 or so per person to keep these boards alive?
I'll post a poll in the general thread to see if it's even worth his time. I'll also post a seperate thread to see who is willing to continue the league by moving to a new board. We would lose all history, so start cutting/pasting pertinant stuff

Well, we aren't getting much reply from people on carrying on in another board, so it's looking like this may be the last year for Frenzy and SAC'd. The Commish job takes up enough of my time, I can't do everything else also to keep SAC'd running...and I am sure Jim feels the same way...so to keep the leagues running, someone else will have to step up and do the legwork to move them to new boards. I will come back in a few and post here the couple of boards we use in other leagues that should work. It will be tough losing all the history, but this is a free for fun league, so I am sure we can manage.

Here are the two I am involved in other leagues with. The first one seems to be the closest to Preds, the 2nd is loaded with FF Geeks who will always offer their opinions on other boards.

I have no clue as to what it would take to transfer information from one board to another (I'm not really that much of a tech guy)... but I'm willing to help keep our leagues going in the offseason.

I have SAC'd rules in a Word doc on my laptop at home, and Patrick has the 2007 and 2008 spreadsheets on his for SAC'd. Other than those 2 docs, not sure we need anything else except a new home that will work for our daily activities. I think the legwork necessary is for someone to check out these and other board options to see what will serve to best imitate what we have now, with linking abilities, search features, messaging features, etc. Going to miss all the little icons....I see Noah online once in a while and maybe we can get him to update our new boards with new one out....

Its too bad we cant find a format to pay for that offers both the msg capabilities and the football league format.... Newb question here - But has anyone ever thought about moving to Fanball? I know it has some dumb stuff but it does dynasty and salary and contracts etc.

I play on fanball on both my other dynasty leagues. It can be set up the same I beleive as far the league scoring and contracts etc. It just offers a commissioners front page post where the commish posts announcements or sunday night updates etc. before monday games, then it has a front page spot called owners stories for owners to post info on themselves but everyone just uses it to post on the front page with whatever they want. then it has normal posts on the right side in the general post board. In other words we wouldnt need a seperate forum.... I am going to capture a screen shot and post it so you can see. |

Directly underneath where it says League Home is the Commish post spot. The red box below that is where owners can post anything they want. On lower right Message Board is general board. Some of you would hate fanball just cause its new, some cause it has flaws like any place, and some would tolerate it, and some would like it alot I think. Anyone else ever used it? http://img185.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fanballxt9.jpg |

I went ahead and set up a free board for both Frenzy and SAC'D at IPBfree.com.
Looks just like the current forums we have and hopefully when I get more time I can make it look better than the default. Would be great to get this same color scheme on there for familiarity sake. Also hopefully Mike can help us out and teach me how to import the NFL logos/icons if he has that file around. Everyone register and we can give it a try. Here's the URL to the new board - so register and bookmark. Unless the powers that be want to go somewhere else this place should do: http://frenzysacdff.ipbfree.com/
