The Amish Rake Fighters have obtained the Predators 1st round compensation pick (for declining Shaun Alexander), as well as the Predators 2.5 pick in this years draft.
In return, the Parkwood Predators receive RB Willis McGahee (1yr 1355) and the Rake Fighters 2.3 pick in this years draft.

Joel shopped him for a couple days with out much interest. Frank offered his 1st rd comp and pulled back. I very hesitatingly sweetened my offer to include my 1st rd comp. He's a cancer IMO, that said, for 1 year, hes affordable as my RB3 (even though hes now my highest paid RB). Yes, I consider him RB 2/3 material. He's vastly overrated by those that think otherwise IMO.

I'd agree Mike overpaid, but at that salary I think there is decent chance he could outperform his contract. There is a good chance he doesn't earn it either, but it is affordable enough to take the chance.

I don't think so at all.
Here's my reasoning. I keep Willis for one year. He's not 1st round tender material so next year the best I get for him is a 2nd. My team is not set up for a run this year so I build for the future. I get a 1st round pick for Willis this way. Also because of the man crush Swords had on TO, I am in a number crunch. I could cut him but I need comparable for 1500 due to cap penalty. This way I am picking up a pick while opening space to make runs at better long term players. I'm I missing something? Also, I had a deal in the works with Flax but this one was better IMO - very comparable from two reputative owners.... (you make the call there) ![]() I am trying revamp the time and Willis was a one year option for me IMO. |

I think McGahee will perform well in Baltimore this year. The way the rookie draft goes, that's a solid trade by Mike in my opinion.
Of course, I wasn't factoring anything about Joel's cap situation... |

Don't forget all these deals also freed Joel up to match Thomas Jones. I actually thought I overbid a bit there to try and force him to be unable to match. Oh, well it looks like he played this situation (with all the trades and the match) quite adeptly. Speaking as someone who has struggled in this league for years could please start recruiting lesser competition ;).
Anyhow, I guess it is back to the drawing board. |

Matt, if it makes you feel any better, I definitely agree you overbid Jones. I'm not sure of the Rake Fighters motives given his cap situation, but if I was pressed to the cap, I'd rather have McGahee @ 13xx and a 2nd round comp than Thomas Jones @ 2200 and a 1st round comp.

And I'll say it now, your last couple years have shown significant improvement from the Freedom organization (heck you swept me for the 1st time ever last year right?), keep at it, and I DO think you'll be getting the trophy to Philly in the future.

Well I seriously considered offering the 2.01 for him. I wouldn't have gone any higher than that and clearly that wouldn't have been nearly enough.

Joel essentially gets a late 1st, probably a couple picks before your 2.1, but also dropped 2 picks in rd 2. That said, it seems to me, that most agree (save Jim), that about the max value for Willis was in the range of a 1st rd comp/early 2nd, which is exactly what he got. Combined with the Kevin Jones deal, I think Joel improved his team dramatically yesterday, particularly for planning for 2008 and beyond.

Yeah, as Mike said with the 2008 and beyond, that was my whole idea after last year. I might have a little tied up with Thomas Jones at 2200 where I could have had Willis at a lower price, BUT I wouldn't get a 1st round for Willis if I RFA'd him and that would be another year past. This way I feel I draft some late first rounders, give them a year or two to mature, and set myself up better for the coming years than have money locked into non rookie contract deals.
