Default 2007 Calendar

It looks like we updated the 2006 Calendar here:

http://www.predsff.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8962

It also looks like we will all reconvene in about 2 months to get the 2007 season started. See you soon!

I'd like to ask to push the dates back a month this year, but purely for selfish reasons!

I will be MIA for 2 1/2 weeks from April 4-21 visiting my divisional brethen Opihi's lovely Hawaiian Islands. I can GUARENTEE you, the last thing on my mind will be the Frenzy or SACD, in the midst of RFA wars or not!

If we keep the dates as is, I wont be able to participate in the RFA process at all, which will artificially lower prices! ;)

Oh, OK, I have no problem with moving the RFA period, and everything else back a bit. Though, I don't think we need to move "everything" back depending on how long the RFA period lasts. If we start the RFA period at the begining of May, and finish before the end of may, we shouldn't need to wait more than a few days to start the rookie draft, and if the rookie draft lasts into June, we should be able to start the off season free agency as soon as the rookie draft ends. Just my opinion. But heck, I'm ready to start the RFA period today.

Well, I'd be open to doing the RFA's March 1-31 if you want, but we lose the advantage of learning where key NFL FA's land. Or we can hold them May 1-31 (Or April 25-May 24, whatever doesn't matter) and keep all other dates as is (the draft could run simultaneoulsy).

Well, I wasn't totally serious about starting the RFA period early. I'm more excited than anything, just because I'm looking forward to it, but it would be silly to do it before all the big roster moves in March. That could really affect some things.

Basically, I just wanted to say in my earlier post that if we start the RFA late, we don't need a strict schedule for everything else, we can just start the next thing on the list when the previous one ends. once the RFA stuff starts, everyone is paying attention and we can move things right along.

I don't think we should overlap the RFA and draft though. Once can affect the other.

Possibly... if you're looking for that starting kicker or TE and you don't want to shell out the RFA dollars to do it. But otherwise, even rookie stud RBs are no sure thing to be starters. QBs and WRs are going to have to wait... unless you get someone like Marques Coslton (wait, he's on my team... oh yah!).

Actually, I'm cool with whatever time table we decide on. I'll be here until the end of June, when our family is going to England for a month. I'll have internet access, but won't be monitoring the site like I do when I'm here in the islands.

Actually, I just realized we can't overlap the RFA period and the draft. They do affect each other given the compensatory picks. We'd have to wait for the RFA period to end before starting the draft.

As did I!

If everyone is cool with pushing back the RFA period till say May 1, then rolling everything else out sequentially within days of completion is cool with me.

BTW, we could start the RFA period as soon as Monday 4/23 if you want, my big concern is just being MIA during the heart of it from April 4-21.

Agreed. Everyone (who wants to) should be around and available when the RFA period kicks in. I say when you get back, we solicitic RFA nominations, and once everyone has put in their players, start it the next day (due no later than 4/30, just in case of slackers). But, if everyone is ready to go on the 28th, for example, then lets just get it started.

That'll work for me.

One last question. When do we vote on rule changes? The reason I ask is that it could impact strategy if we move to allowing a 1 RB offense?

Rule change voting should be done prior to the deadline to submit RFAs. I'm not sure how much Mike will want to give input on any new rules votes. That could affect when we'll want to vote and such. If he doesn't care, we can do a bunch of discussion while he's on vacation. If he has input, we should probably get things underway before he leaves.

As I stated in the SACD thread, I'm open to getting rules discussion going now if we can.

That's fine with me. Other than possibly tweaking the rookie draft (lottery style) and flex lineups, I don't know how much we have on the docket. Before we get everyone rounded up, I would think those who have anything they are looking to propose should get some proposals together.

I don't want to be a party pooper but pushing bac the RFA to May will have a significant effect on the dynamic of the league. At the moment the RFA is BEFORE the NFL draft, meaning that although we might have an idea of the 1st 2-3 players off likely to be picked we don't know how their situation is going to affect their value. After the NFL draft most of the 1st round falls into place and players values are much easier to predict.

I think that has an affect on RFA strategy.

For instance, if you need an RB desperately and you have a high pick you might decide that you are not going to chase an RBs price up in RFA, intead you are going to wait for Peterson in the draft who you are confident is going to drop to the Texans which would be an excellent situation for him. If however Joe Gibbs and Danny Snyder have a brain freeze and take him at #6 then Petersons value has gone way down and you wish you had went after the RFA thus driving the price up.

That is an extreme example of how the timing of the RFA CAN affect values and I'm not saying that the delay is a positive or a negative change but it is definitely NOT a no brainer. Personally I think it would have MUCH less of an impact if we brough it forward to mid march. Most of the NFL free agency would be done by then, as would the combine I think.
