not to complicate matters, but why not implement the 24 hour clock for this week, stop on Friday midnight, and then start after memorial day. We'd really get the benefits early on of having the short clock this first week (it is only Tuesday).
do you mean stop the auction all together till after midnight or revert back to the 48 hour clock?

I think the 3 person Rules Committee (Jake, Pat, Steven) needs to make a concrete solution on this.

This time I'sa just the commish, so I'll sit tight and let the enforcers decide the right course of action ;).

No, not stop entirely:
May 18th- 20th= 24 hours.
May 21-22= stopped
May 23-27= 48 hours
May 28-30= stopped
May 31-end= 24 hours.

I don't know if the first few days being short would help, but it might.

just an idea for the rules committee.

That's because the text command for the please smilie does not have a : preceding it. I did that intentionally.

If you type PLEASE it will be ok, or Please... but lowercase p will give you the smilie.

Can I make a suggestion on this BTW, I know Pat has responded to Steve, and Jake is probably working, so I doub't we'll get a consensus tonight. But you have a 2-0 vote in favor of the idea below, and as commish I'll step in and make it 3-0 (sorry Jake).

Let's put the 24 hour timer on all bids beginning with any bid posted from midninght tonight onward.

In addition, suspend bids from the wee hours of Satruday morning at 12:00am until Sunday night at 11:59pm as has been suggested. Therefore bids placed on Friday at say 5:00pm would sell Monday at 5:00pm. Any bid placed Saturday or Sunday will be considered to have ben placed at 12:00am on Monday, and will sell in the wee hours of Tuesday morning at 12:00am.

Soooo...If I bid on someone at 11:59 tonight he would have a 48 hour clock, if I wait to bid till 12:01 he would end 1 day sooner....I guess I will be waiting to post any more bids...

So the 24 hours applies to auctions going on now as long as the bid is made after midnight tonight ... correct?

Also, are we keeping the 24 hour clock for next week (May 23-27)? ... don't see why we wouldn't.

For Memorial Day weekend are we suspending things for an extra day (May 28-30)?

Seems consistent...holidays count same as weekends.

Only issue is that we have a owner from Canada, so their holidays are not always with ours. If he has no issue with following our holidays, yes.

This 24-hour time will be from here on out (starting at midnight tonight). Per my understanding, anyone bid on tomorrow (including those already open) will be put to the 24 hour time table. Any bids already open that do NOT have any bids tomorrow will remain on 48 hours. More I think about it, that's a little silly, but I'm not rewriting the whole thing...

In fairness to Jack, I think we should NOT follow US holidays unless we follow Canadian holidays, and if we do that, we'll never get this over with.

I vote for a Saturday/Sunday stoppage only.

My preference is to not have a 3 day stoppage over Memorial Day weekend as I don't have the holidays but I am a minority of one being in Canada and understand if we do have a longer stoppage that weekend ... I wouldn't think it is unfair.

Although this is a long weekend in Canada and I am away for it, believe I should be able to manage my bids so I don't miss out on anyone.

I say yes to holidays (not that it appears to matter much). It's not like we aren't preventing people from bidding, we're just delaying the sale. It seems a few people just up the previous bid by the previous high bid the second they are out bid, so it's not like the clock is a factor for several players.

By delaying the sale, we're delaying new blood on the market, which in turn drags things out longer. Saturday/Sunday pause is more than enough IMO.
