2011 Playoffs

Well, it looks like an exiting finish to the season. The way I see it, the playoff teams are already decided, and other then the #1 seed, the rest of the seedings are up in the air.

The only team that can tie my record, is Reds, who I have already beaten in H2H matchup. So Chunks have #1 seed locked up.

#2 seed will go to winner of Red vs Swords
#3 seed will go to winner of Blood vs Freedom
all 4 are guaranteed spots in playoffs, as are Burners...

My brain hurts to much to come up with seeding scenarios...

Jim, are playoff schedule and Toilet Bowl schedule all set up to roll next week?

Does the new "power ranking" rule give any hope to the nonlisted playoff teams for the 6th seed?

#7 is Opihi, who is .64 behind Freedom, and 2.52 behind Insects...so I guess actually they do have a shot. I was looking at PF column, thinking they were too far behind...

So the plot thickens...maybe cutting MJD will come back to haunt Jim?

Damn you, Beast Mode! Really hoping for a miracle that AP starts or Benson goes bonkers against the Steelers to have any shot at the #2 seed.

My understanding of the rules is that rosters are frozen after this weeks game for non play off teams.

How about Toilet Bowl teams? Are these teams considered play off teams and can make roster moves to help their cause? Or do we have to go with what got us here?

My feeling is since Toilet Bowl is playoffs, then everyone still in either Toilet or Frenzy Bowl should be allowed to pick up players...same rules apply, they can only be used for playoffs, and let loose at end of year....

Is this the first year we're having the toilet bowl? I'll need to refresh my memory on what that entails.

Okay... just refreshed my memory.
Yes, ALL TEAMS should be able to improve their rosters, as long as they're still in the playoffs (championship or toilet bowl).
REMINDER... any players acquired via FA after this week have a mandatory one year contract, AND they are NOT ELIGIBLE for RFA status. Any players acquired via waiver claim are RFA eligible.

My understanding is that any player bid on as FA before week 14 1st game (Thurs, Dec8) can be assigned up to 5 years as usual and those players will have their auctions run their course until complete.

In the past, that has not been the case. This is primarily because only 4 teams made it past the regular season. So the last weekend of the regular season was the last time to acquire multi-year contracted players.

Though the rules may not be clear with our new format (toilet bowl), I'd have to say that the SPIRIT of the rules is that once the regular season ends, we're officially in the playoffs. Playoff waivers are very different from regular season waivers. One year contracts & no RFA designation. Period.

This year, with the toilet bowl teams in play after week 13, more teams can pick up players for the playoff runs... but they'll be short term acquisitions.

I am a bit perplexed here....

Am I wrong in perceiving that the intention behind the one-year only contracts in Weeks 14-16 was not to put at a disadvantage the teams with locked rosters?

Correct.
But this year everything is a bit screwy with the new playoff format.
That was not given any consideration until just now.
So some kind of decision will need to be made early next week as to how to proceed.
Might have to convey a gathering of the rules committee...

If I could make a suggestion: the same logic should hold as before. Once one or more teams are prohibited from bidding, then only 1-year contracts should be allowed. I suspect that makes Week 15 the new cutoff date.

If I am reading things correctly, and all the scores hold out, the following are the seedings for the Playoffs:

Frenzy Bowl
1) Chunks (1st round bye)
2) Reds (1st round bye)
3) Swords
4) Freedom
5) Bloodsuckers
6) Burners

Toilet Bowl:
7) Opihi (1st round bye)
8) Llamas (1st round bye)
9) SBDC
10) Greatshepski
11) Scorpions
12) Bad Dogs

I believe that the 3rd seed goes to the 3rd division winner. My shrinking 5 game losing streak fan base (and Freedom supporters all through the land) insists that I press this point...

Gotta love FRENZY... we beat each other up in the East & don't get penalized for not having an "easier" division! ;)

There are two issues going on. Here's what's going to happen.

1) Bidding on Players...
The end of the regular season is week 13.
However, any players who didn't sell by the Saturday deadline (ie. Johnny Knox this year) are continued over into week 14 bidding. We eliminated the eBay style of bidding in the offseason. Any players "held over" CAN STILL BE GIVEN multi-year contracts.

2) Playoff Rosters...
Starting Tuesday at 12:01am, week 14 begins. This is PLAYOFF WEEK. Even though we added the TOILET BOWL this past offseason, the consensus of the rules committee (Myself, Burt, Patrick & John), per an email exchange this past February (that was just rediscovered!), is that playoffs = Frenzy Bowl (not Toilet Bowl). Therefore, the only teams eligible to pick up players for the playoffs are those in the Frenzy Bowl bracket.

Hope this is clear.

Yes. Freedom should have the #3 seed and Swords should have the #4 seed. Thus the first round of the playoffs should be Burners vs Freedom and Bloodsuckers vs Swords

So these are final rankings:

Frenzy Bowl
1) Chunks (1st round bye)
2) Reds (1st round bye)
3) Freedom
4) Swords
5) Bloodsuckers
6) Burners

Toilet Bowl:
7) Opihi (1st round bye) 3%
8) Llamas (1st round bye) 5%
9) SBDC 7%
10) Greatshepski 10%
11) Scorpions 15%
12) Bad Dogs 25%

The remaining 35% will be distributed in the following way at the completion of Toilet Bowl:
Winners of 1st round get + 5% added to their base %.
Winners of 2nd round get another + 5% added to their base %.
Loser of "Toilet Bowl" gets another + 5% added to their base %.
Winner of "Toilet Bowl" gets another 10% added to their base %.
The 7th and 8th place teams will get 1st round byes. This allows the lower teams (12-9) to potentially earn more % points vs. the 7th and 8th place teams.
At the completion of Toilet Bowl, will hold the lottery with the set percentage points for the 1st 2 picks ONLY - As a result the 4 non-playoff teams that didn't win the #1 and #2 picks would be assigned picks 3-6 from highest seed to lowest seed assuring the #12 seed no worse then the #3 selection.

Also, I found the following site that allows us to hold the lottery - check it out and see if that will work for everyone:

http://www.draftpicklottery.com/

I believe Skype allows 2 people to share a single desktop, so we could have two of us hold the lottery online? Since the commish is involved, maybe the 1st and 2nd place finishers of Frenzy Bowl can hold the lottery?

I activated a couple of players from my Taxi squad, since I didn't technically pick up these players (they were already mine) do I get to use them for the Toilet Bowl?

If not I want to undo some moves I made

Bounty Hunter... you can continue to make moves during the TOILET BOWL period, as long as they're already in your program. Active, Taxi... doesn't matter. You're good.
