Like in anything, when the main course is all gone and all that is left is scraps, a starved man will pay more for it.

Davis scraps? Wow..harsh...
Look at stats...Davis and Gates are pretty close in points the last two years..Gates had a ton of TD's last year, which made his PPG higher...but Davis is young and coming into his prime years, whereas Gates is older and battling injuries...NFL is all about stats, and Davis makes the SF QB's better, so you can count on him being targeted even more this year. 49ers quarterbacks produced a 113.8 passer rating when targeting Vernon Davis in 2010. Even more impressively, Alex Smith boasted a 124.0 rating on throws to Davis compared to 72.6 to all other targets. For comparison's sake, San Fran QBs produced just a 64.8 rating on passes to Michael Crabtree, 85.3 to Josh Morgan, and an appallingly low 36.8 to Ted Ginn. Entering 2011, there's no question Davis is the Niners' top receiving threat. Yah, I think its about right....

The following players are yet to be bid upon. I'm going to suggest that if there is no further bidding by the start of the NFL Draft this Thursday night, then they will sell at the tender price to their current owners. Of course, if any DO get bid upon, we'll see it out to its conclusion.
QB Jay Cutler 2nd - 800cb (Scorpions) ================= RB Steven Jackson 1st - 2,400cb (Freedom) ================= WR Randy Moss 2nd - 1200 (Greatshepski) WR Steve Smith 2nd - 1200 (Greatshepski) ================= TE Jeremy Shockey 3rd - 250cb (Bad Dogs) |

I'm ok with cutting the RFA period deadline back if no activity on remaining players. Less distractions from NFL Rookie Draft...

The Rookie draft will not be starting Monday morning.
We usually provide a good 1-2 weeks break AFTER THE NFL DRAFT for people to do a bit of post-draft analysis (I know I do) to prepare for the Rookie draft. We will be continuing that tradition. |

Ah, what an unexpected round of support I got here!
I don't have a reason to start early, other than I am suffering from off-season-itching-to-do-something-NFL-related disease (which has also caused me to make a lot of unnecessary, lopsided trades in all leagues). I am intrigued by the prospect of everybody drafting without much readily available online rankings and analysis, but that's a rather subjective reasoning on my part. (Side note, in one of my leagues we just wrapped up the rookie draft. I blew it, of course, but it was still much more fun than the conventional rookie draft. Nothing feels better than doing your own analysis, sticking to your guns and seeing that fifth-rounder pan out!) |

Then again, we could not turn the clock on until the scheduled start time - on the condition that we don't harass the guy "holding up the draft" until after the 9th of May.
I know, I'm the one doing the encouraging...

I figured the pick able to be made before clock starts was always an option....
Realistically, who here has NOT already looked at hundreds of mock drafts, thousands of 2011 rookie rankings, etc? come on...we are ALL ready to roll!! Just need to see where they all go and make some minor adjustments....by Saturday evening, we will know everything we need to know...which gives us all day Sunday to get ready - Jim, you can just ask you associate paster to give the sermon this Sunday..you need to rest up from your Easter sermon!! ;-)

Sorry guys... it's been a very busy last couple of weeks with Easter.
I could be persuaded to start the draft towards the middle-end of next week... but not on Monday. |

Is there anything in the rules that says when the draft starts?
If yes, let's go with it. If not, then Commissioner decides. He can do so on his own, or through a vote, but that's his call exclusively. |

The rookie draft will begin on or about one week after the first day of the NFL college draft (see Section 5B).
So a week from tomorrow is about when it should start...not really specific, so really we can roll it up any time...but to be fair, I would say next Thursday would be according to rules...I don't really care...I was just jumping in the fray with Reds back!! ;-) I am cool with starting the official clock Thursday at 12:01 AM EST....picks made before then would be off the clock.... We need to finish up RFA first, to determine where comp picks fit in though.... So Jim, is this cool with you? Everyone else?

Yes, this is fine. I knew one week was in the rulebook. Of course, that was made when the draft was a two day, Saturday-Sunday affair. But yes, we'll need to have someone coordinate the comp picks, too. Anyone have energy for that?
