Chiefs 4.03 Justin Medlock, K, Kansas City

Taxi Squad is about full, so taking a player that might make the active roster.

Man, aren't you glad you got ALL those extra picks you wont be able to take full advantage of in the Lynch deal? ;)

I got rid of a pedestrian running back I didn't want on my roster. I took full advantage already.

See we majorly disagree there, I don't think he's pedestrian.

Further, if you're so high on Peterson, don't you think your 1.1x comp and Lynch for AP woulda put you in a better situation that where you find yourself now?

I have more than one hole to fill. If I was on the cusp of competitiveness, maybe. The Lynch trade gives me the chance to lay a foundation I can build on. With the way SAC'D is built, you can't lay a foundation on one guy alone. Just like your difference of opinion of the two between SAC'D and Frenzy, my opinion would be different in the Frenzy. I would have traded up from 1.3 to 1.1 for that deal in a heartbeat because a stud RB can make such a larger impact. SAC'D, that one player wasn't going to turn my team around.

Hmm, lets look at your draft class:

1.08 8. Nittany Dodgers (Brian) Bowe, Dwayne KCC WR (R) Fri Jun 1 2:45:59 a.m. ET 2007
1.14 14. Nittany Dodgers (Brian) Posluszny, Paul BUF LB (R) Fri Jun 1 2:53:36 a.m. ET 2007
1.16 16. Nittany Dodgers (Brian) Stanton, Drew DET QB (R) Fri Jun 1 2:54:32 a.m. ET 2007
2.03 21. Nittany Dodgers (Brian) Smith, Steve NYG WR (R) Fri Jun 1 2:57:03 a.m. ET 2007
3.03 33. Nittany Dodgers (Brian) Beck, John MIA QB (R) Sat Jun 2 12:24:21 p.m. ET 2007
3.08 38. Nittany Dodgers (Brian) Leonard, Brian STL RB (R) Sun Jun 3 2:16:50 p.m. ET 2007
4.03 47. Nittany Dodgers (Brian) Medlock, Justin KCC PK (R) Tue Jun 5 10:14:44 a.m. ET 2007

Taking away WR Steve Smith, QB Drew Stantonm, QB Jon Beck, and K Justin Medlock (since you woulda maintained those picks) you end up with a net gain from that deal of a potential WR in Dwayne Bowe, Paul Posluszny (a rookie LB at near market value) and RB Brian Leonard (a developmental player who is a longshot). That eqautes to the elite player you believe AP will be in your opinion? Really?

You'd have to include Stanton as well, since I would have had to give you that pick for AP.

I will also remind you of my statement in our negotiations that neither guy was a sure thing, none of these players are. But, with the multiple picks I have, I greatly improve my chances of grabbing multiple players that turn into something, instead of having all of my eggs in one basket.

I agree, I forgot about Stanton (was gonna edit it again but figured you'd catch it anyhow).

Anyhow, as a whole, can you honestly say that group of players will come close to the type of player AP may become?

Put another way, after the fact, if you owned AP, would you trade him for that group?

I can't make that determination now. The whole justification depends on two of Bowe, Pos, Stanton, and Leonard turning into productive players. I like Bowe's situation for down the road. I think Pos will be a stud. Stanton, weather or not Martz leaves town, will be throwing to Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams. Leonard has little competition to being a primary backup in a good offense. Right now, I like my chances, but of course if these four guys flame out and AD turns out to be a stud it was a bad decision. I can't argue that. But that's not what I'm banking on.

, you can't admit defeat, that's OK I have trouble with it too (i.e. the AP thread I've been dodging after Jason nailed me).

How bout this, you admit you errored on this one, and I'll admit I errored on my bluff in drafting AP.

I took him for the reasons I cited (it wasn't all BS), but honestly hoped to extract the extra perceived value out of him in obtaining Lynch and a late 1st round pick (whether from you, Pat or Jake), all of whom I offered that deal to. If I had a choice, I'd have my homeboy Lynch on my roster along with another 1st, but you guys wouldn't cave, and I just wasn't going to give AP away to those that coveted him. So we all trenched in and nobody got what they really wanted (well maybe Jake, I have no idea where he stands on Lynch vs AP).

So now I have to hope you're all right about AP, beacuse my doubts on him still reside.

Just my 2cents, but there is more than 1 way to build a team.

AP could turn into the next LT2. Or he could just be an avg starter on an average team. We'll know in 5 years.

The NFL teams that pick at slots 1.2 through Mr. irrelevant continue to survive, even though they didn't get the "best" player. They're ALL really really good at this point. These teams are spending millions on these players based on college level performance and a belief in potential.

Who pans out from a fantasy prospective? :Shrug None of us know.
Mutts actually offered me the same pile of picks for 1.1, and I declined.

I turned 1.1 into a salary dump for Lamont Jordan who was going to be cut,
and added Chambers which allowed me to free up more $$ by including Gonzo.
Shawn Alexander is an ok RB, also.

Brian turned 1.3 into a handful of prospects at all positions, building a foundation of young talent.
Mike turned Alexander and Chambers, plus a willingness to be a garbage man, into AP, plus a TE not named Vernon Davis to start. (Yah, I know he's $700 too much, Mike....:Bla )

For next year and also long term, which of these 3 teams made the right call? I dunno. Thats the fun of this stuff. If everyone valued players evenly, this would be incredibly boring. Instead, the 1.1 pick AND the player chosen at 1.3 both changed teams this year. Thats a good thing for SAC'D...:toast:

I'll admit defeat in three years if my picks don't turn out. Why admit something now when it's not known?

As far as our potential trade, there were two extenuating circumstances. First, while I am confident in my assessment of Lynch over Peterson, I wasn't going to be wrong about it AND give you value in swapping (not just cause it was you, but anyone). Secondly, I guess I'm just a bigger PSU homer than I am a Vikings homer. I knew if I made the trade, there was no way I would get Pos, and I knew if I traded with Jake, I was all but assured.

Actually, I got who I wanted in Calvin Johnson. Knew he'd go top 3 so I wasn't really interested in moving up to the #1 pick but would have moved down to #3, which Brian and I would have probably done had Lynch been taken with the first pick.

So basically, if Mike would have just taken who he'd wanted, we'd have all been happy.

Thanks Mike!

:cheers I always aim to please, well maybe not in this case

Being the stubborn ass that I can be, I wanted to extract extra value out of AP and refused to take "my guy" Lynch without gettng more value from everyone's "consensus" #1. As much as I prefer'd Lynch, it just didn't make sense to me to take him at 1.1 when I should have been able to get extra for all those on the AP bandwagon.

It didn't turn out as I hoped, and I ended up with a guy I'm not really 100% sold on but really HOPE lives up to the incredulous amount of hype.

Man, Jason's just gonna be beside himself when he reads all this!

AHA! I was wondering why you disappeared from the thread. So now that you've come clean, I have a question.

Since you think Lynch is the better one to have and just wanted to capitalize on the AP consensus, once you saw that no one would make the trade you wanted, why not just take Lynch + anything for AP? From your perspective, it's still free goodies. I'm assuming Brian would have done something less than Lynch + 1.1x comp to bridge the gap (like Lynch + 2nd or Lynch + 3rd).

Mike told me to give me a take it or leave it offer, and I gave him Lynch + my 3rd, and Mike turned it down.

So, Mike, I guess to turn the tables, would you rather have the RB you didn't want as much, or the RB you wanted and one of these players:

John BeckAnthony SpencerJon BeasonReggie NelsonJamaal AndersonBrian LeonardAntonio PittmanDeShaun WynnJohnnie Lee HigginsKevin KolbDwayne WrightJames JonesDarrell RevisJarvis MossJustin MedlockBrandon Merriweather

Or anyone else yet to be drafted?

The answer to that is, if I couldn't get what I wanted, I'd be a stubborn ass and not let the others get what they wanted!

So nothing short of Lynch and a 1st rd comp or 08 1st woulda pulled him from me.

That's Mike's strategic thinking, doesn't want to have a rep for being soft in trade negotiations, personally I've always found him to be as eager to please as a 6 month old labrador puppy, always willing to turn over and have his tummy tickled

I love how such a heavy and contentious discussion took place in a thread entitled "4.03 Justin Medlock, K, Kansas City". Who'da thunk it?
