Question The Waiver Wire revisited

Help me understand something...

If a player (like, say... THOMAS JONES) is cut, don't we have a waiver process now? I seem to recall it being 24 hours, but I could be wrong. It seems to me that Jones should not have been bid on within that first 24 hours... in order to let waivers run their course. Or is this only DURING the regular season.

Thanks...

No Jim, you are correct. Thomas Jones is still available for waivers for 24 hours. While we didn't specificially say that a player on waivers cannot be bid on until they clear waivers, it seems implied, though maybe it doesn't really matter. He can't sell until after he clears waivers (since his waiver time will expire before his first bid expires), but bidding allows teams high on the waiver order to see if it makes sense to claim a player on waivers or not. Other thoughts?

This was your brainchild, so I'll respect your thoughts on how we should make this work, however, I would think, that there should be no bidding until the waiver period expires.

The question I have, which Jim also stated, is when are the Waivers in effect? From the opening day of the new season till the Frenzy Bowl?

BTW, I also forgot about TJ needing to clear waivers, and was 2nd on board in the bidding. oops

Well, to me it makes logical sense that there would be no bidding until the player clears waivers. The more bids that go on just let the higher waiver claim positions know what the player could potentially go for. That doesn't make sense to me.

I do believe it was stated when we voted that the waiver claim procedure would take effect on 4/1, when we discussed if soft cap cuts would be elligible for waivers (we decided they wouldn't be, but as soon as the new year kicked in it would start).

Just to confirm, in the official rules, and the Waiver Order thread, it is stated the waiver claim process began 4/1.

Unless there is any dissent (in which case we'll have a vote), I'll modify the waiver claim rules to include language that waiver players cannot be bid on for 24 hours after they are cut to allow the player to clear waivers.

FYI, the Rules state the following on Waivers...

http://frenzy.predsff.com/2005Feedin...#Waiver%20Wire

Quote:
The Waiver Wire
Each player waived will be placed on the waiver wire for a period of 24 hours during In Season Free Agency, and 72 hours during Off Season Free Agency. During this period, each team will have the opportunity to claim the waived player and assume his current contract without the player reaching Free Agency. During the appropriate waiver wire period, each interested team must post in the thread indicating the player was waived, their intention to claim said player. At the end of the waiver wire period, the team with the highest current waiver priority (as defined later) will assume the players current contract. The claiming team will have the standard 24 hours from the time of the claim to make room on their roster, before Roster Penalties will be enforced. In that case, the team with the second highest waiver priority will assume the players contract. If no teams make a claim for a waiver player within the waiver period, the player is considered an Unrestricted Free Agent.

If the waived player is claimed, the waiving team receives a credit in the amount of 10% of the current year’s salary (the portion of the cap hit that does not pertain to the signing bonus) to their active roster salary cap. If the claimed player is subsequently released during the length of the same contract, the waiving team will receive a cap hit of only 10% of the current years salary, as the singing bonus is to be considered paid by the original team. If the player is claimed through the waiver wire, the second waiving team will receive the 10% cap credit, and essentially no penalty for releasing the player.

The waiver priority list will be maintained by the Nittany Dodgers in the Current Waiver Wire Order thread in the Frenzy Free Agency & Waiver Wire forum. Once the initial order has been set, it will not change until a transaction is made on the waiver wire. Once a team claims a player through the waiver process, they will be moved to the bottom of the waiver wire priority list. The order will never be reset. The order will only change based on transactions made through the waiver wire. The only way to move up in the waiver wire priority list is to have teams above you in priority claim players on the waiver wire.
I've closed and locked the Thomas Jones bidding thread. A new thread can be started after he has cleared waivers (72 hours after he was cut).

One more thing I was thinking about that isn't specified in the rule, but will most likely come up; claiming players released from Taxi and Practice Squads. Is it our intention to allow teams to claim players waived from the TS and PS and place them on their own TS and PS? I would be in support of teams being able to claim players waived from TS and PS and place them on their own TS (assuming they are elligible) but NOT on their is PS regardless of elligibility for the PS. Any other thoughts?

:agree

Not PS to PS, but PS to TS is OK IMO

good points. i think a player waived from the TS or PS should be subject to the waiver wire just like released AS players. i also agree with the Dodgers' point that a TS or PS claimed from waivers should only be eligible to be placed on the claiming team's TS or AS.

I agree with all that's been expressed thus far. Seems like we're on the right track...

Can I make a suggestion for players that are cut could the cutting team put the current contract and cap years in the thread? This way people can see (without having to try and look up) what they would be getting with particular players.

Also, where do waiver claims get submitted to?

I was thinking the same thing. I think that is a great idea.

As far as where to post the claim, post your intentions right in the thread the player was cut. This also means that each cut needs its own thread.
