Default Wanted: Substitute Team Manager

Well, I drafted what I thought was going to be a monster team in my local money league this year. I've won the title the last two years running. This is only a partially competitive league, with about 5 owners being serious fantasy footballers, a couple more being somewhat serious, and 2-3 who are total nutcases who win only when they are lucky.

It is a ten team, keeper league, with an auction draft. Players drafted at the auction are signed to three year contracts for their acutioned price, and their contract remains in place until they are cut. Each year we can keep up to $75 dollars of our $150 total cap.

Going into the draft this year, I kept Ahman Green ($49), Chambers ($6), Elam ($1), Tampa D ($1), Baltimore D ($1), Davenport ($6), Chris Brown ($1), Emmitt Smith ($5), Larry Johnson ($1). At the drafted I added Jake Plummer ($1), Curtis Martin ($20), Terrell Owens ($32), Dallas Clark ($1), Wheatley ($7), and Brandon Lloyd($2). I was admitted thin at WR behind Owens, but it is a 2 WR league only, and I figured I could trade RB depth for a WR down the line. Since I've won 2 years in a row, no one will trade with me, fairly anyway. Someone who drafted 3 QBs dropped Brooks, so I nabbed him for Plummer. I've also since added Marcus Robinson and Reggie Wayne. I should have a great record, but here's now the season has gone.

Week 1-3 went fine. Started 3-0. The only possible thing I could have changed is starting Chris Brown over Ahman Green in Week 2, but I wasn't going to do that, and it didn't cost me the game. Then, in week 4, I benched Martin in a what I thought would be a tough matchup against the Miami D. Brown gets 7 points for me, Green gets 10.6. On the bench are Martin's 19.1 points and Emmitts' 19.5 points. I also dropped Dallas Clark after 2 bad weeks, and he gets a TD. Result is a loss. In week 5, I go back to Martin, and bench Brown. Martin goes for 10 points, Brown for 27.2, and Ahman gets a whopping 3.8. Emmitt also outscores both of my starters with 11.3. Fortunately I played a winless team, and I managed the win. Week 6 rolls around, and I finally bench Green. He does better than Brown (albeit, by only 3 poitns). I also dropped Jeb Putzier who scores a touchdown. Second loss of the season. Then, this week, I keep Green on the bench, and start Brown and Martin. Brown gets 7.3, Martin goes for 7. On the bench is Green with 26.7 and Emmitt with 18.6. I also cut bait on Chambers this week who finally explodes. Another loss drops me to 4-3, with two teams in my division at 5-2.

Every move I make with this team is for the bad. :Banghead :Banghead :Banghead :Banghead

OUCH! Stay the course, I think you'll be fine, though I think you gave up on Chambers too quickly.

An owner really cut Brooks? Why?

6-7 weeks still remain in most FFL seasons, so I wouldn't frett about it too much, you're still well in the hunt.

Yeah, I really wanted some production out of my WR#2 spot, and Chambers wasn't getting it done. I didn't have that much hope for Miami to turn the offense around. I usually move to slow on WR free agents, and I saw a few getting nabbed up, so I jumped on M-Rob when Moss went down. Of course I didn't start him though.

The guy who cut Brooks drafted 3 QBs. We have two guys in the league that refuse to acknowledge that the league undervalues QBs, and overvalues RBs (to a rediculous extent). I was throwing QBs out left and right at the auction, and these two guys kept bidding them up, even though it was obvious that the league as a whole wasn't going to pay market value for them. The guy that ended up cutting Brooks also drafted Matt Hasselbeck and Marc Bulger. Brooks was what he rated as his #3. Another guy drafted McNabb even though he had Culpepper as a keeper. He got a great price on McNabb, but he screwed himself since he didnt have money left for any RBs (Dominack Davis is his only starter, which is sad in an only 10 team league).

I'm not too worried at this point. I'm still #2 in the league in points (pending tonights game). I'm just a little PO'd at my management and needed to vent!

Hey Brian, I got CuMar and Brown in another league. Can you give me a heads up on which one you're gonna start from here on out? TIA

Just for that, I'm going to start them both for the rest of the season, so it looks like YOU'RE SCREWED!

Seriously, for a couple of years at the old FBG message board I had a thread of who I took in the first round each year, warning others away from them. I had a notorious string of first round picks that busted (IE, Steve Young after his amazing '94 season, Emmitt Smith during his two worst seasons, Jamal Anderson the year he blew out his knee). I had the anti-golden touch in the first round. Seems I should have given this game up years ago.

Thank goodness I'm deep at RB in that league. Looks like I'll go with LT, Thomas Jones, Droughns or Suggs from here on out. CuMar and Brown to the trade block!

*Yes, its an 8 team league but we have large starting lineups........*

I should have told you I went with Martin, and sat Brown this week. Obviously guaranteed Brown to go off.

Oh, and for those keeping track, I started Marcus Robinson over Wayne. I bought into the hype that the shove meant Wayne was going to have an off week. I guess the off week comes next week when I start him again. :Banghead
