Default Week Five Wrap-Up for Frenzy

Da Da Dum Duhhhhhh (imagine MNF music…come on, work with me here). Welcome to the thawed thundra of…(come on, you’re not working with me here)…Ok, it was lame, but I’m tired and my brain hurts. It’s Tank D’Season coming at you with the summary and commentary of the Feeding Frenzy Week Five games.

We’ll start this week with Nittany Dodgers (1-3) going against the Liquid Swords (2-2). After last week’s pathetic showing from nearly every active QB, this week changed a bit. Dodgers were happy that Pennington went over the 300 yard mark for the first time this season. Tiki Barber rocked for 34.1 points against a tough Dallas DT. I think I’ll stop doubting him. Duce Staley didn’t care about losing his big toe-nail and ran all over the Browns (23 points). Peerless Price finally woke up, but it was not enough, while his fellow WR forgot why they were playing (or how to play). Bubba Franks pulled in two TDs and Ryan Longwell scored in the double digits. Pittsburgh DT also let them down against a weaker Browns team. Swords were celebrating in the streets that Culpepper’s bye is gone as he had a hay-day against the Texans (50.4 points). Pinner and Hambrick both shamed Alstott from the bench. But the man who needs to apologize to the team is Ahman Green…who could not rush for more than 38 yards (oh we won’t mention the fumble [again]) against a weaker Titan DT. In fact, check the stats, each week he has scored fewer and fewer points…pretty soon he’ll be in the negatives!! Andre’ Davis lit up the Steelers for over 100 yards and a TD. McMichael had some good yards, but no TD. NE DT did stun me in scoring as low as they did against the pathetic Dolphin offense.

Prediction: Dodgers put up a good fight, but can’t keep pace with the Swords who want to get back on their winning ways. Swords win by 15.

** Actual: Dodgers 139.10 - Swords 129.20

Game of the abbreviations – BDSC (2-2) take on SBDC (0-4). Chasers were looking forward to a better day from Hasselbeck against the Rams, but two things held him back…one was his receivers not holding on to the ball and secondly he was gun-shy after the helmet to helmet collision. He still did well. Marshall may be looking at the future…Stephen Jackson rushed more than he did, this does not bode well. Burress came out of no where to have a monster game…speaking of patterns, this is two weeks in a row Burress is being looked at by Roethlisberger more than Ward. Moss, well, he’s Randy and once again dominated (though he only caught two of Daunte’s FIVE TDs). Cars were also happy with Manning, though his yards were down, he still had three TDs. Darrell Jackson leeched off of Hasselbeck’s numbers by countering any of his points. The rest of the team was actually mediocre. Really, I would like to talk about there, but there isn’t anything to say except they weren’t very good.

Prediction: This is really a close game. Both QB’s should do well, while all RB’s shouldn’t. Looks like it will come down to WR’s and right now Moss gives the edge to the Chasers. I see them pulling out a close game.

** Actual: BDSC 93.4 to SBDC 78.95 (not at close as I thought because Burress went off), however, I was accurate on QB’s and RB’s being close in score (as well as total of TE/K/DT).

The Urza’s Ragers (3-1) face off against the RH Opihi (3-1). Vick had to be killing the Ragers. As soon as you bench him, he’ll have a break-out game, but right now he is killing them. This is the second week in a row Brees has nearly doubled Vick’s output. Bledsoe also made Vick look bad. Mikey, what’s up? Don’t you like West Coast Offense? Jamal did finally come on in the 4th quarter last night to go over 100 yards before he’s out for three games (two suspension & bye week). Taylor did not do as well as I predicted, but 17.1 points is still respectable. Gardner did NOT do as I expected (no WR did for Washington). Williams went out injured (what’s up with Detroit WRs???). Chris Chambers caught his first TD this year, but too bad it was on the bench (where he should have been). Much like Ragers’ Lewis, Opihi has Marc Bulger come on in the fourth quarter to make up for his previous three Ints. He ended with a solid 37.7 points. Warrick Dunn is showing he’s a must start every week (and Duckett should remain on bench) with his 20.5 points. Travis Henry has never gotten out of the gates this year…and now lost time to McGahee (is it the OL?). Mewelde Moore rocked (29.2 points), but will he have another week like this (Moe Williams may return next week). Holt has performed badly for the second week (but this time it was to a solid DT). Mason pulled in a TD, which is nice. I think my razzing finally broke the spirit of the Opihi and they sat Lelie (who made a great TD catch). But the killer is that Marcus Robinson (Mr. 31.5 points was on the bench). Shockey decided the end zone would be a nice place to hang out for a change and scored. He would have had about 20 more yards as well, but a play was called back on penalty. Elam is very good and consistent. Seattle was crushing the Rams then fell to pieces.

Prediction: Man, you are putting me in a tough spot, this is also a close game. Neither QB will light it up. RB’s are all solid. WR will do fair. I actually see this coming down to TE, K & DT. Looks like this will also be a close game. Opihi will hate me for picking them to win, but I think they have a minor edge.

** Actual: Urza’s Ragers 76.95 to R.H. Opihi 127.25

The BAB Insects (3-1) look to stop of the Freedom’s (1-3) winning ways. The Insects are wondering what is up at QB. Collins had six ints against two pathetic secondaries. How’s he going to do against a good one? Alexander is on a roll for nearly 30 points again. Definitely a must start, even against Patriots next week. Portis is not showing why Washington traded for him. 15.2 points just isn’t going to make it. Coles, Porter and Stokely were all major disappointments. Eric Johnson, however, dominated for 28.7 points. Talk about your rocking TE! Freedom didn’t want to roll over and decided to make this a heck of a game. Leftwich had his second good outing (helps that they’re playing from behind and he has to air it out) for 33.9 points. Martin still hasn’t realized he’s over 30 and was in the upper teens. Zereoue was disappointed Fargus stole a TD from him, but also scored in the double digits. Bruce was kept under 100 yards for the first time this season. Jimmy Smith did enjoy a 100 yard game, though. Freedom’s frustrated that Gabriel did not perform while two other WR on the bench were in the double digits. Who’d a thunk the Titan DT which had been a sieve would get six turnovers from the Packers…not me obviously.

Prediction: Not looking like a good week to have back to back wins for the Freedom. Unless a lot of their players have record weeks, this is going to move the Insects to 4-1.

** Actual: Insects 112.7 – Freedom 118.80

JT Waste (0-4) look to upset the Predators (4-0). OK. Answer me this…how can Tom Brady have the Patriots score 24 points without Dillon getting a TD and he throws for only 76 yards?!?!?! What is up with that?!?! I think Waste feels my pain. Edgerrin helped to alleviate some of that pain by scoring in the 30s. Suggs split time with Green, but neither did well at all. Glenn and Muhammad were non-existent. Wayne once again showed he’s a must start. Heap (not playing) and Rams DT really hurt. Preds were also a little perplexed with Brooks, but at least he cracked (barely) the 100 yard mark. Barlow realized that when SF is behind, he’ll be forgotten (for the second week in a row). Tomlinson went out with a minor tweak, but should feel no ill affects (he already had 26.2 points, though Preds probably would have liked the 100 yards & TD Chatman had added to LTs points just for gloating purposes – did I just say that???). Andre Johnson you are a star. Barring injury, this man may lead the NFL at the end of the season. 35 points for him this week. Moss (as in Santana) live up to your hype (you’re currently failing). Boo Williams decided that since it’s October and Halloween is around the corner, he should wake up and actually scored more than Hines Ward. Baltimore DT dominated.

Prediction: Two areas make a difference here. QB & ‘other’ I give the QB nod to Waste, but Preds have better TE, K & DT match-ups. Plus, WR have a slight edge. I think Preds sqeak out a close one.

** Actual: Waste 84.9 – Predators 148.70

Finally, Wonder Mutts (2-2) lock up with Indiana Undead (3-1). Testeverde might be showing his age and let me Mutts down this week (12 points). Corey Dillon didn’t break 100 yards against a surprisingly weak Miami rush D, though 94’s pretty close. The killer was Chris Brown going off in the first quarter – there was a chance to break single-season record, but he came back down to earth for only 37.45 points. Fitz & K Rob did fair, but the show stealer was Antonio Gates (25.3 points). Explain to me how these TE’s are out-scoring some top notch WRs and RBs??? TB DT was in the double digits. Undead had another good showing from Plummer, but before you let your guard down, remember it’s Jake the Snake and he’ll snake you when you do. Bettis actually gained some yards this week (34) while stealing another TD from Staley. Terry Jackson was a sacrifice player (Jones, Holmes & Johnson’s bye week). Bennett actually scored in the double-digits as well. Graham actually outscored Marvin Harrison (please see TE question above). Stunningly, Indy DT scored 19 points. Crazy game.

Prediction: The holy-cow low score of the week will be put up by the Undead. Mutts should walk away with this. If they don’t, they need to wear bags for the rest of the year….

** Actual: Mutts 133.45 -- Undead 86.25 (not nearly as bad as I thought!)

Week Five is in the books. Can’t seem to break that 4-2 mark. Keep watching that waiver wire (though not much there these days!)

As always, great job Rami.

What's your W/L mark for the season now? A couple 4-2 weeks must be helping things along there... I'm guessing you're about .500 now?

Absolutely pathetic performance by Ahman Green...and the worst happened: Bubba blew up. Ahman is in the dog-house a second straight week. Nice comeback Dodgers.
:toast:

Pretty impressive showing for the 12th ranked team in the league, huh?

Thanks. I've got Ahman in my money league. Thankfully I didn't need him Monday night as I had everything wrapped up. That would have hurt to watch if I needed anything from him (especially since I had Chris Brown on the bench).
