Week 4 Frenzy Wrap-up

Tank D’Season back once more for the weekly humbling. It appears that the owners are less aggressive this week as the teams are starting to stick to their colors (where does that phrase come from???). Anyway, let’s see what happened.

SBDC hosted the Indiana Undead this week. Peyton Manning faired well vs a tough Jags DT, still posting in the 20’s. Brian Westbrook, though being kept out of the end-zone, tallied nearly 200 yards of total offense. Stecker came back down to earth against what is a surprisingly stingy Arizona DT. All three WR for the Cars fell way short of expectations. Crumpler and Mare both produced well, while the Washington DT was only average (Atlanta scored 10 more points on the bench). Undead was thankful that the week Jones came back down to earth, he wasn’t needed. Rudi Johnson scored in the 20’s on his bench, though. Priest Holmes against a great Baltimore DT went off for 32.75 points. Drew Bennett and Marvin Harrison performed well, while Chad Johnson (who usually plays very well against Pittsburgh) did only fair. Graham once more pulled in a TD (and appears to be a SOLID TE).

Prediction: I actually see the WR’s being the difference here, I’m cursing the Undead and predicting them a victory (SBDC rejoice at expecting their first win!)

** Actual: SBD Cars 99.75 – Indiana Undead 119.90

Predators were taking on the Swords. Liquid Swords were disappointed in Brad Johnson’s performance (boy do they need an O-Line). Swords would have loved to have had Carr start instead. Ahman Green also let him down for the second week in a row (while teams are focusing on stopping him, especially since Favre was out for a bit). Mike Alstott, Joe Horn and Rod Smith all underperformed. Andre Davis stepped up. And who would have predicted Hambrick having a monster game, coming off the bench. McMichael once more appears the only fantasy player on Miami. And Patriots DT has a solid week. Predators were also disappointed with their QB. However, the rest of the team stepped up. Andre Johnson and LaDainian Tomlinson both scored in the 20’s. While Barlow and Walker were in the double digits. Ward has his worst week this year, but that happens. What surprised me was that Matt Stover for the Swords scored more than the Baltimore DT.

Prediction: First time in three weeks, Predators are predicted to win handily over Daunteless Swords. (I love making up words)

** Actual: Predators 118.40 – Swords 91.95

BDSC challenged the Philadelphia Freedom. To continue the trend above, the Chasers were ALSO disappointed with their QB status. But, at least Fiedler stayed on the field and had positive numbers this week (11.55) – though Rattay (28.40) on the bench adds salt to the wound. Marshall Faulk dispelled any rumors of his demise (even though he did lose a TD to Jackson), scoring in the 20’s. Wheatley went out with an injury early, hurting his day (where do these bad play on words come from?). Burress, Houshlasjnkjzyxtcvuky,ajabsduyftasd (like I could spell that), and Stallworth did nothing to write home about (though Burress would have loved to have had Roethlisberger’s knee not touch, so he could have added another 55 yards reception). Hanson on a bye isn’t going to help his team any. Jacksonville picked a bad week to go against Indy. Freedom had the first good outing by Leftwich (26.85). Hollings was held off by the out-of-the-blue running of Jonathan Wells. Martin, like Faulk, is having everyone hitting Vegas on when they are going to STOP running like twenty-year-olds, had another monster game. Bruce had his fourth 100 yard game in a row, while both Jimmy Smith and David Terrell pulled in double digits scores. LJ Smith dropped a potential TD (leaving him with zero points) and Tennessee had better luck holding back the tide (1.0 point). Thankfully, neither of their performances were needed.

Prediction: (drum roll, please)….man, I’m sorry Freedom, but you might actually win this week. I’m taking the Chasers to continue Freedom’s losing streak.

** Actual: Chasers 68.35 – Freedom 111.05 (man, I should choose against Freedom more often and they should win some more)

Dodgers faced off against the Opihi. Nittany Dodgers were crushed by Pennington’s pathetic performance (come on Roethlisberger performed better against Miami in the aftermath of a hurricane). Yet, Tiki Barber ran all over the Packers for 33.35 points (fantasy points for those who are hitting "reply" to correct me). Staley would have had a better day except for Bettis getting the two TDs and fumbling twice. Caldwell may actually start being a fantasy consideration (scoring in the 20’s), but can he be consistent week to week. Bryant Johnson and Peerless Price have been useless. Gonzo didn’t come up big when he was needed. Pittsburgh played well and scoring a TD to seal victory over the Bengals really helped. The Royal Hawaiian Opihi enjoyed a mediocre outing by Bulger (only 1 TD and under 200 yards). Warrick Dunn went out with an injury in the 3^rd or he could have had a monster day. Henry finally showed some life teasing the 100 yard day. However, the man to have had was Emmitt "I’m not retired yet" Smith for 30.45 points. Givens played well, but was overshadowed by teammate Patten (does anyone know which NE WR will have big day or do they just draw straws???). Holt, on the other hand was a well below average day, while Mason enjoyed having Billy Volek tossing the pigskin for 21.40 points. Shockey and Elam were both in double digits.

Prediction: QB’s are a wash, but it’s better RB matchup vs better WR matchups. Generally I would go with the RBs, but I’m going to upset the Opihi and predict them to move to 3-1.

** Actual: Opihi 119.25 – Dodgers 107.80

Urza’s Ragers went head-to-head with Wonder Mutts. Michael Vick once more is a dichotomy (whoa, too big a word for this early in the morning). He makes Atlanta Falcon fans happy, but frustrates the snot out of fantasy owners. Besides, who would have thought Brees would nearly double Vick’s points. Fred Taylor once more played well, but I expected bigger things against a weak Colts DT (of course the Jags passed a ton). Having 22.75 points by De’shaun Foster hurts a bit. ** Rant of the week – after going for 18 yards on his first carry, coach Brian Billick limited Jamal Lewis to 15 carries (most of them in 4^th quarter) against one of the worst rush DT in the NFL???? He deserved to lose. He did the same thing last year in the play-offs. Rant over (besides, I have Jamal in another league). On to the beneficiary, Randy Hyme went for a long TD pass from Boller. Gardner woke up from last weeks dream game to a whopping 3.40 (I know I started him too). Moulds posted yet another solid game (he seems to be only solid starter for Bills right now – Preds, I know Lee and Henry had fair games so don’t write me hate-mail). Ackers scored like a RB (in fact better than many RBs). Wonder Mutts were dying watching the Packer game (if they did or could) when Iron-man Brett Favre went out. Course he came back to throw a TD, but will his streak of starts end next week??? Chris Brown failed to reach the 100 yard mark for the first time against SD (Tennessee did give up the run for the pass because they were behind). Dillon had a solid game against a tough Bills DT (scoring 20.45). Fitzgerald scored poorly for his team doing well. McCareins has not shown what the Jets brought him in for (um, that’s scoring…hello??). TO once more produced (getting tired of saying that). Gates, Feeley & Eagles DT all scored in double digits as well.

Prediction: Close game of the week. I see Ragers continuing their streak to 3-1 in a nail-biter that comes down to MNF.

** Actual: Wonder Mutts 111.45 – Ragers 113.55

Bay Area BI took on cross-country Jersey Waste. Kerry Collins would have put up half-descent numbers if he hadn’t turned the ball over FIVE times. Course the Insects had no one to put in instead (with McNair hurt). Henry did the best of any RB for Miami so far this season. Maybe they are turning the corner (course they face NE next week). Portis got a TD, but otherwise had a lack-luster day against the Browns. Coles, however, did show well against those same Browns, but missed out on a TD (and had that pesky fumble at the end of the game). Stockley showed he wasn’t a 1-hit wonder and posted solid numbers again. Porter was not on the receiving end of many of Collins passes, hurting his week. Eric Johnson is continuing to have monster games (going over 110 yards). Oakland was supposed to beat up on the Texans, but that just didn’t happen (doesn’t help when your QB turns it over so many times…ok, enough of the Collins slamming). Waste had below expectation day from McNabb as well (definitely not the week for stud QBs). It was ok, but not what Waste looked forward to in playing the Bears. Williams Green’s days are numbered as Suggs came back from injury to post solid yards and a TD (oh, yeah he was on Jersey’s bench). Edge, however, still holds the reigns in Indy and showed he could perform against Jags. Muhammad had a solid day, but he also had trouble holding on to the ball. Reggie Wayne finally had an off week, must to the dismay of the Waste. The Rams DT should have done better against the 49ers.

Prediction: I actually see this as the low scoring game of the week. Please don’t send me hate-mail Waste, but I’m going to pick you for the upset mostly due to McNabb.

** Actual: Insects 104.80 – Waste 80.90

4-2 this week. Not too shabby. Let’s me at least keep my head held up a little. So, now all the coaches out there are wondering…"so, do I want him to vote for me or not." Love keeping people on the edge of their lounge-chair. Until then, keep combing the waiver wire.

The Central has been the weakest division since the beginning of the league, that's hardly a surprise. Alot of this has to do with the fact that most of the teams have been completely dismantled in the past few years for rebuilding, and ownership changes. But we are slowly building and gaining more power. One only need look at the increased scoring from the Central this year, and our 5th, 6th, 8th, and 10th place positions in the current league power rankings. (Better than the West's 4th, 7th, 9th and 12th)

Watch out for the Mutts in particular! Don't forget I finished dead last in 2003... I guarantee the Mutts won't be an easy matchup for anyone in 2004!

Let's see, that would mean the EAST has claim of the top 3 Power Rankings spots (no surprise there ;)), as well as the 11th... and when Duece comes back I think Philly is gonna put up a fight each week.

What's the East's overall lifetime record as compared to the other divisions? We're a few games ahead of the West right?

Curiously, each division has laid claim to a title, though East Teams have 3 bowl appearances wheras the West only has 2 and the Central 1.

2004 is a telling year... which division is gonna be the 1st to claim 2 titles? Is the East a heavy favorite? Or will a challenger arise in the West (Insects)? or possibly even the Central (Swords or Mutts)?

Can Jersey make another run like in 2003 where they started 0-7, only to go undefeated the rest of the way enroute to winning it all?

The history of the Frenzy has some great stories, and I think they're only going to get better!

Just curious... knowing that the Central has been the stepchild to both the East and the West... what's the h2h record of the East vs. the West?

Better yet... what's the h2h records of each division against the otehrs individually?

Just when I think I have everything covered. I'll have to do some quick math on this one.

East and West dominate the central, the East a little more. The East has a current slim lead on the West.

As far as the power ranking, I'd also wager that I won't be in 12th place at the end of the season, but I think I've done enough wagering for a while.
