Default TRADE ANNOUNCEMENT - Predators GM confirms Blockbuster Trades

Hamburg, NY April 10, 2002
by: Rhett Zone, Predators Correspondent

Predators GM Mike SantaLucia confirmed this morning the teams involvment in engineering what has to be considered the biggest "trade" in Feeding Frenzy history last night.

In all 5 teams, 10 players, and 8 draft picks (3 of which were exchanged twice) were involved.

The Predators started the evening off by trading Colts RB Damian Rhodes (281 cb’s for 1 year), along with rookie pick 2.10 to the Nittany Dodgers in exchange for WR Marty Booker (1165 cb’s for 1 year) , WR Mushin Muhammad (982 for 2 years), as well as the Dodgers 1.11 and 2.11 picks in the rookie draft. The deal was confirmed by the Dodgers this morning when Marty Booker was matched and concurently triggered the following:

The Predators sent Colts star WR Marvin Harrisson (2750 cb’s) and the 2.11 pick acquired from the Dodgers to the Detroit Wyvern’s in exchange for RB’s Michael Bennett (550 cb’s for 4 years), Kevan Barlow (110 cb’s for 3 years), and the Wyvern’s 1.06 and 3.06 rookie draft picks.

Parkwood then packaged two 1st round picks (1.06 and 1.10) and sent them to the Philadelphia Freedom for their 1.04 rookie pick and the Pittsburgh Steelers Defense (110 cb’s for 1 year).

Finally, the Predators acquired last years rookie RB sensation, LaDanian Tomlinson (1398 cb’s for 2 years) and rookie pick 1.05 from the Royal Hawaiian Opihi in exchange for RB Michael Pittman (457 for 1 year), Travis Henry (110 for 3 years) and rookie pick 1.04.

All 4 deals were contingent by acceptance of each deal by the 5 teams involved. Which occurred this evening when the Opihi accepted their deal. Confirmation will be posted here as well.

I’ll have more on this breaking story in the next few days.

The Opihi confirm the trade that sent LT2 back East and welcomed the services of Travis Henry and Michael Pittman!

The Insects deal with the Derby Cars of quantity for quality brought back memories of my blockbuster 18 player, 5 team deal of 2 years ago.

The core of my team is still the key players from this deal,

RB's LaDainian Tomlinson, Kevan Barlow and Michael Bennett
and WR Marty Booker and a pick which traded down and eventually became Ashley Lelie.

Considering I've been to the past 2 bowls and am the reigning champion (not to mention I still own the majority of key players from this deal) I'd say this deal worked out pretty OK for me ;)!

Looking back at this trade, all I can say is "what the heck was I thinking?"

And just who is Damian Rhodes?

I had Edge, so I know I wanted Dominic. I remember Booker was a RFA and I had no intention of matching, but Mike wanted him. Muhammad might have been the same as well, but I don't remember. Even if that was the case, the rest of the trade is pretty much Rhodes for a 1st rounder.

Well, to be fair late first round picks werent worth nearly as much as they are now. Booker being an RFA not worth matching makes his value to you zilch. Who did that 1.11 pick turn out to be?

Daniel Graham. He wouldn't have exactly changed the course of my franchise.

Now there's an understatement! My trading record will demonstrate my contempt for 1st rounders, under the old system. Of course, I'm paying for it this year.

Ah the glory days of trades for the Frenzy...

Jim did you draft LT as a rookie or was this when you first took over and the previous team had drafted him?

Wow!

I joined the league shortly after this trade. Must have scared the previous owner of my team so much theat he decided to retire.
