I would like to propose that we insititute a 3 team Pro Bowl on Week 17 that will consist of representatives from teams from each of the divisions.
1st Team Starters would consist of players from any or all 4 teams in the division, and would be chosen by the Division Champion after the regular season ends week 14. Each Division Pro Bowl Lineup would be coached by the division runner up during the week 17 NFL games. The Pro Bowl Coach will have the option to sub players who are either hurt or declared out for other reasons with another player from within the division at their discretion week 17. Each Pro Bowl coach will submit a lineup week 17 for their division, and the teams will be sorted out at the end of the week from 1st to 3rd. This is solely for bragging rights, both with saying your player was a Frenzy Pro Bowler, but also that your division was the best (or maybe not ;))! I think this could ad a little spice to the end of the season. Anybody have further input on this? DO you like the concept, hate it, want to see some changes?

Sounds like fun. We do this in my local league and it adds an interesting element as the season wraps up.

We've done this in my dynasty league since "year one"... and one of the stipulations I'd like to see us adopt is to require that at least one player from every team in the division be used. In fact, if we have 9 starters (QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, K, TE, D) then we could go with requiring 2 from every team. This forces the "ProBowl Coach" to be more creative in his lineup submissions.
(I know, I can already hear Mike railing against this... but it's "just for fun," right!?! Give every team a chance to have their guys in the game!) |

The NFL doesn't represent every team, only the best (popularity does play a part but in general the best are represented), and I think the same should hold true for this.
I doubt a division winner will be so biased as to only represent his own team, the fact is 1, the div winner isn't coaching the team, and 2, odds are the other teams will have better players than the div winner at certain positions. Plus, if the division winner is smart, he'll look ahead to the week 17 games and the matchups before deciding who to nominate to the Pro Bowl team.

Yah, yah, yah... yada, yada, yada... I'd still like to make it a requirement... adds to the fun, in my opinion. (But did I call it or did I call it, Mike... I'm really getting to know you well!) ;)

I like the idea, and I also like the requirement that all teams are represented. No, the NFL doesn't do this, but if it is just for fun, then everyone might as well get the chance to have one of their own players to root for week 17 (regardless of how meaningless it really is). I think it would make the strategy of it all more fun if each team were required to have two starters, but I'd be fine with just one as well.

#1 allowing the division winner to pick the division's Pro Bowl squad is like another reward for winning the division #2 if the division winner includes or excludes certain players or certain teams it will only add fuel to the already intense division rivalry fires #3, I'd like it to be known that I have'nt won the East division in the past 2 years, so it's not like I'm proposing this Division Winner picks the team concept out of my own interests... in fact, the Squirrels are the only team in the league to have won their division more than once. Our divisions are so competitive that I think this will just add to the intensity.

Mike, you just love to hate those division mates, don't ya?
Personally, after a long season of kicking my divional foes down like a bag of dirt (or being kicked down, whichever is appropriate), I'd prefer a little Kum-Ba-Ya like get together at the end of the season to join forces and beat down on the other divisions. We get so many chances to hate during the season, might as well interject a little love. :smoke |

, the only division mate I have any sympathy for is the Freedom, and once Matt finds his winning legs I'll hate him too!!! Predators Football is the only game in town! Nobody else measures up! OK< enough sarcasm, I hear ya on the luv factor, but I really don't care for the representatives from each team idea, especially 2 reps, but hey, thats me. I still like the overall concept of a Pro Bowl, and if the league wants to be all buddy buddy at the end of the year then so be it! My compromise proposal would be for each team to submit a list of up to 8 players as Pro Bowl Canidates, and the Division Champion can pick among them say a roster of 16 (2QB, 3RB, 5WR, 2TE, 1K, 1D and 2 wildcards) for the Division runner up to choose his lineup from. No team could have more than 8 Pro Bowlers, but each team would be awarded at least 1 (whther or not they start is up to the div runner up).

I like the original proposal, but would also like to see 1 person from each team represented on the 1st team roster. I feel that would be more representative of the divisions as a whole, as opposed to rewarding divisions who may have only a few loaded teams talent-wise.

It seems we have a consensus opinion on having at least 1 player represented from each team, so lets build the proposal off of that.
My questions... Should we have each team nominate Pro Bowlers and allow the Div champion to choose off that list? or Should we just allow the Div champion to pick a roster with the understanding that each division team must be represented. Additionally, Should we set a roster size that includes a basic starting lineup only, and allow team to sub if necessary? or Should we pick a larger roister of say 15 players (2QBs, 3RBs, 5WRs, 2TEs, 1K, 1D, 1 of any position) IMO, I don't care how the roster is formulated, but I like the idea of going with a larger pool for the div runner up to pick his starters amongst, with the caveat that he must choose at least 1 starter from each team. Discuss away ;) :IconDrink

Doesn't really matter to me. I'd just say the division winner picks the starting lineup, and the runner up can substitute as necessary. Even if we go with a larger pool, what happens when both the QBs selected go down to injury? Might as well just name the starters but give the runner up significant leeway to play with injuries and top notch players sitting that final week.

Why are we having two owners involved in the lineup process? The lineups will only be set the week of the ProBowl, right? Seems kinda weird to have one person set the lineup and then another be able to make changes... (no offense, Undead!)... why not just let one person do it all? And I don't care who gets this "honor": Division champs or runners up.
Additionally, I think a basic lineup should be fine... so many NFL players "rest up" during that week, it'll be hard enough fielding a 9-man team that you think will actually play all four quarters! |

Doing it this way allows teams to boast about their Pro Bowlers for 3 weeks before the big game ;)!

Um... okay...
To me, the "fun" is actually seeing which team beats the other two teams on ProBowl day... But far be it from me to rain on anyone's 3 weeks of boasting! Either way would be fine. |

Damn, I love the rivalries in the East Division, they just don't get any better than Predators vs. Undead, Undead vs. Opihi, and Predators vs. Opihi (no offense Freedom). Hopefully the Freedom will show some growth this year and will enter the intense rivalries already in place with their division brethren.

Someday I will win, someday I will win, someday I will win...
If I keep repeating it maybe it will happen. Okay, not likely but at least now I can ride the coattails of my division brethen and boast if (when) we win the All-FFL game. BTW, did I win at least one divisional game this year? |

In 2001 the Freedom went 1-5 in Divsion games, with the sole win coming against the Piranahs franchise (currently the Opihi) In 2002 the Freedom improved to 2-4 in Division games with wins against the Undead and Opihi. In 2003, the Freedom digressed to an ugly 0-6 in Division games against what turned out to be the toughest division in the league. So in historical terms, the Freedom are: 2-4 against the Opihi franchise 1-5 against the Undead franchise and 0-6 against the Predators! OUCH (sorry Matt)with a lifetime division record of 3-15! :wow I sense better times ahead for Philly, at least for his mental sake I hope he's ridden out the toughest stretch in his rebuilding!

Okay that really is bad. For some reason I thought I actually beat the Predators at some point. On the plus side 3-15 leaves lots of room for growth and improvement.

Big target makes no difference when your opponent has no big guns. That is going to change (this way re-signing Vanderjagt is so important to me).
Oh, well hope springs eternal and someday I am bound to beat you (I would think the law of percentages has to be on my side here). |
