Default 1b Rookie salary scale follow up #2

If adopted, should all rookies drafted in previous Feeding Frenzy rookie drafts still under their original rookie contract have their contracts adjusted to coincide with the new rookie scale proposal?

Note: if a rookie was CUT at any point, their salary will not be adjusted. Only the contracts for rookies who have never been cut will be adjusted (trades are OK).

Opihi have voted negatively... we knew what we were getting into before... let's just move on now in a new direction.

I've voted negative. No reason to retroactively affect so many contracts. Lets just take our lumps and move on.

I voted yes, and feel somewhat strongly about it. With a Development Squad, and especially with the addition of two huge DS slots last year, a large number of drafted rookies remain on their original teams. As we've seen in Brian and Mike's new salary scale mock-ups, those players with original teams that are now studs (Portis for example) will still make elevated salaries. At the same time, I think a little competitive balance can be injected into the league by lowering salaries for some of the teams that have stuck with struggling rookies.

We have admitted as a league that our rookie salary scale was flawed and probably harmful to those that adopted a strategy of building through the draft. While we're at it this off-season, lets correct the injustice and make sure the penalty to teams (brought on by participating in a flawed system) is done away with!

I think I made a few arguments in favor of the retroactive application of the new rookie salary scale. Unfortunately, I think they may have been among those that were lost. In my mind we have far too many players some active (but a lot on the DS) that will be grossly overpaid as compared to future rookie selections.

As someone who has not done nearly as well as I would have hoped I have a bunch of these guys on my team. These inflated salaries ultimely will end up punishing (harming) me. Yes these players might become good players down the road but compared to other young players their salaries are not justified by their accomplishments. Also, if they become good players the well designed new rookie scale will ensure that they are appropriately paid.

I know an argument can be made that I knew the price I would be paying for having these high picks and thus I could have traded them. However, I did not know that down the line we would be changing the pay scale (no one did). Either way I now have players that are grossly overpaid in comparision with what future classes will be paid.

If we really want to try and help the lesser teams become more competitive this might be a simple and effective method to help accomplish that. Like the Mutts said, "While we're at it this off-season, lets correct the injustice and make sure the penalty to teams (brought on by participating in a flawed system) is done away with!"

Your Yes vote here would be greatly appreciated!!

I want it to be known, that after a lot of carefull consideration I did indeed reverse my stance and backed this proposal with a yes vote in support of teams like Matt and Jake who have tried to rebuild through the draft but haven't reaped any benefits due to the out of whack payscale.

I'm still in the "NO" category... not because I have any great deals from rookies... I've got a few overpriced guys myself... but I just don't like the idea of going back and changing how we've already been playing. We took on contracts, traded picks, etc. based on the previous scale. I know I sure did... traded away more than a few picks, based on how I perceived their value. The high contract system was a key component to that decision...

Having said that, if it comes down to my vote being the one that decides whether or not this gets voted up or down, I'd be willing to "take one for the team" and change my vote...

This is not worth falling on my sword for.

I am in the same camp as Jim.

Voting "No" for me is a matter of principal over affect on my team as if this is retroactive although, Portis' salary will rise, but my 4 or so other draft picks will be lowered significantly.

I just feel that we have all played under the same guidelines. We all knew the implications of the draft picks and we all understood that the draft is a risk. Basically tough luck if you pick has been a bust thus far.

However as Jim has stated if the difference in this motioning passing or not is mine, then reverse it. If the final four vote 3-1 against then reverse mine.

I'm really split on this one.

By principle alone, I feel I should vote against, for the reasons cited above.

And yet, I feel like voting yes and retroactively changing the contracts because I think it would make the league more fun for this season. At least, my team would instantly become more fun to manage this year.

Competitive balance? Fun? I'm in this league for both reasons... which gets priority here?

I'm witholding my vote for the moment because I think there's one group this really affects: teams that CUT drafted rookies outright because they were overpriced, who definitely wouldn't have under the proposed scale. Does anyone feel like they're in this camp? (I'm not.) How do you feel about retroactively changing contracts and being S.O.L. on the ones you cut (or traded)?

I just want to point out that we did kind of set a precedent last year when we froze salaries on the DS and rolled back the rookies salaries for players on the DS as a result.

I was torn initially, and leaned towards voting against this, however, I decided that evening out the competitive balance for the teams that have stuck with the draft methodology of building a team, and the past precedent we set last year made rolling them back palatable.

I actually had not thought about that too much until I went back and looked at who I had drafted. In the first year I ended up cutting one of my two first round picks (based on the cost versus his production) and also my third rounder.

To be honest I am not sure I would have kept them even with the reduced salaries because orginally the DS was smaller. Even though I am SOL on these two I feel like without the retroactive change I am more SOL as my two first rounders from last year are going to be paid more than double what a comparable player would be paid from this years draft.

I think we can make the league much interesting/enjoyable but trying to level the playing field going forward and voting YES!

After much deliberation, the Dodgers cast a "yes" vote on this issue, for a variety of reasons.

While I certainly understand, and don't necessarily disagree with the ideas that trades were made based on previous values and we all knew the rules then, so we should just fix it and go forward. I think both of those sentiments are valid.

However, I do think the following out weight those concerns: first, I agree with Mike that we set a precedent with the revision last year to free DS salaries and lowered salaries that had already had the 10% raise. I think this league is still working out some kinks (though I think we are almost through that process), so until all the major revisions are done, I think we make things as consistent as possible.

Also, I ran the numbers, and with the exception of the Derby Cars, the Squirrel Chasers, and my Dodgers, all teams are getting a similiar break in salaries. The three aformentioned teams are getting all less of a break.

I just feel the benifits outweigh the harm done, and the fact that the people who want this passed feel more strongly about it than those who are against it (with two fence people voting against) motivates me to support it.

Since I'm going to be away from my PC the rest of the day, I'm placing a "yes" vote. But I will be willing to reconsider if someone makes a strong case in opposition.

At this point, there's already 7 "yes" votes, so this measure passes... so be it. The masses have spoken! lol

Now let's move on.

Looking forward to seeing how this affects all our rosters at Mike's next update (which, according to the amount of time he's put in recently on this league, should be in about 27 seconds!)

, I already started working on it last night for an hour or so! I'll also notee that Brian and I have already begun the process to update the rulebook so that it reflects all the changes we've voted in (or out).

I'm almost done updating the info in the draft tracker, just need to input some of the salary and incentive info from the 2002 draft. As for updating the Roster app to reflect the changes, I've come up with some ideas on integrating a tracking mechanism for the RFA's, and reflecting that not only in a summary page but also each individual team page. I'd say I'm only at about 10% completion of that task, however, since I've only had time to partially create the summary page which will link to each team page. But before I can create all the links I need to add columns to track the RFA data for the Free Agents listed on each team page, and I've only done that for 1 team page so far. I will also have to spend some time updating all the rookie salaries.

That all being said, I'm hoping to spend some more time with my beloved laptop tonight, while I watch Survivor and The Apprentice ;)... hopefully I'll be able to complete the task tonight, because if I can't it's gonna be a few days, since tommorrow evening I'm going camping for a couple days with my son and his cub-scout den (and the boyscouts from their troop) at the scout campground out in the boonies (and yes, it's STILL winter here and only about 40 degrees... insane aint it! At least we'll have a cabin!).

Enjoy the camping.

BTW, did you get to spend some more time with your beloved laptop last night? If so, were you able to get the numbers done?

Last but not least weren't you happy to see Omarasso (I think I butchered the spelling there) get the boot on The Apprentice.

Here is a thought for a reality TV show, a Fantasy Football based program where the worst team gets the boot at the end of the MNF game from that week. I think this deserves it own thread on the FBG's board.

Check the other threads, both apps have been overhauled and updated.

Hated Omarossa... what a C U N T. Loved seeing Trump can her. Drama Queen Sue quitting on Survivor was a kick too. I mean gimme a break, in no way do I consider watch Hatch did "Sexually Violating" her. Harrassment maybe... but in order to violate wouldn't you think he'd need to penetrate or fondle her? Add in the fact that Hatch is openly GAY and I think Sue was just way overboard. Her threat of a $10 million suit shows you her real motivations... I hope the bitch loses in court.

As for the reality FF TV show, isn't it basically the same as the many survivor leagues that are already out there? I know they're not broadcast on TV, but I'm not sure how many americans would tune in each week to see a bunch of geeks like us debating whether to start Garcia at home against the Seahawks or Brad Johnson on the road in Carolina...:wow

Thanks. Sorry for not doing the due dilegence.

As for FF Reality TV, I think the point is that are a lot of geeks out there like us. For some smaller Cable channel this could be a workable show. Think of all the other crap that is out there!

Not even close, I start Garcia at home vs the Seahags.

PS - I caught Omarosa's interview on NBC Today (I think) this morning. She felt she was the strongest one left so that's why she was elminated. The others somehow worked against her to get rid of the biggest threat.

Yeah..............................it had nothing to do with her being a BITCH!

This probably deserves it's own thread, but Omorossa was such a wench. She criticizes just about every other woman on the show for being too emotional, and that this is business and you're not supposed to be emotional. Then, when she knows Trump is criticizing her (for something he was right about as she was faking the head injury the whole time, and why she thought she was going to get sympathy from a building mogul that she got a little chunk of plaster on her head), she runs into the board room crying. Nice move b-yatch.
