Default Rules Ambiguity

The Releasing Players (Waivers) section in the rules states:

The cap penalty applies only to the Active Roster, as there is no salary cap for the Taxi Squad.

Rookies may be cut during the off-season free-agency period with no cap hit, however, once they are declared active or DS the cap penalty rules will apply.

Good thing I had enough cap space or I would have unknowingly gone over the salary cap. It wasn't until today that I'd noticed the "however" clause in the second paragraph. I even looked this up when deciding on which rookies to add to the Taxi. I read the 1st paragraph and thought I had my answer so I dropped Matt Schaub and added Courtney Roby in his place. Had I continued to read and noticed the ambiguity, I would have brought this to everyone's attention and asked for an explanation....I would have kept Schaub and dropped Roby too. I think this is where the Derby Cars got into problems with exceeding the cap.

You know, I seem to have remembered this in the back of my mind... tucked away somewhere. And then when one of the guys got a notice that his taxi squad was over the contract year limit, I said to myself, "Hmmm? I thought we didn't have limits. Guess I was wrong."

Guess I was right... didn't we change this with the TS/PS switch?

You've lost me here Pat... there is NO CAP HIT when releasing a player off the DS/TS or PS in most circumstances. With the implementation of the new Taxi Squad this year however, a player who is promoted upwards to the Active Squad, and then down at a later date to the TS, WILL be subdject to cap penalties. If a player spends 3 years on your DS/TS and you release him, and he was NEVER promoted to the Active Roster, you will not be hit with the cap penalty.

As for SBDC... I do not believe Nate is being charged for releasing rookies or DS players... if you look on the app, you'll notice I zeroed out the penalties for all DS/TS releases. I believe Nate is over the cap because he promoted JJ Arrington, but did NOT have enough cap space to accomodate him (by a meager 43 cb's).

Don't remember. Maybe, but all new changes have been highlighted in red text. This section was not.

The Taxi Squad still has a 20 year limit... there is no limit on the Practice Squad however.

Also, there is no maximum salary cap on either the TS or the PS.

Ah, I see, yes indeed there is no cap hit when releasing a player off DS/TS. Didn't look at the actual cap value. Just noticed that a value was listed in the Remaining Signing Bonus section of the roster app and thought that was being applied. My bad.

Thanks, Mike... I was getting confused between the cap hit and the contract year designation. Consider me clear now!
