Remove years from players contracts on Taxi Squad - only assign years when moving to active roster, and contract still becomes guaranteed at that time. 3 year limit on TS still applies.

So now that this has passed and takes effect this year, does it impact EXISTING TS/PS players or just rookies?
i.e. did we just wipe out contract years on all TS/PS players that don't have guaranteed contracts for having been active? Or do existing TS/PS players keep their current years?

I was thinking same thing. I think we should have another poll on whether to apply to existing players, or only those drafted this year forward.

I'm fine either way TBH, but agree a poll should go up to clarify.

I need a rule clarification that might be impacted by this rule change.
In addition to these base salaries, rookies will earn bonuses based on their performance each year of their original rookie contract. I assume that the "original rookie contract' will include all years on Taxi Squad and all years declared after they are promoted to the Active Roster. Example...I drafted Lamb (WR Dal) last season. He has been on the TS for the full 2020 season. A rookie bonus was applied to his 2021 Salary. I leave him on my TS another year and promote with a 5 year contract in 2022. He will potentially have 7 years rookie bonuses applied. So a rookie placed on TS could have 8 years rookie bonuses. 3 years on TS, another 5 years if promoted at the end of 3rd year with a 5 year contract. |

I think we need another vote to decide this. I'll put up a poll.

Question on auto-promotion from TS of players entering third year...do these years need to be assigned at rollover or with roster declarations? May need a vote here, but I lean toward with roster declarations; however, if cut after rollover, it would apply a single year...like cutting RFA, off-season UFA prior to declarations. Other thoughts?

I was thinking roster declarations as well.

if that's the case how long do teams have to declare years after auto promotion? 24 hrs? 48 hrs? 72 hrs? do we need a vote on this or will a commissioner order suffice?

Here's the COMMISSIONER'S ORDER:
If players are auto-promoted at the start of a new season year... teams will have 72 hours to declare contract years. If they do not, the player(s) will default to one year. If a player wants to cut a player who has been auto-promoted, a 1-year cap hit will apply. But this league is so on top of things, I'm sure this will NEVER come into play... right?!?! |
