Re: Covid IR Spots
Regarding Covid IR, I think it should be a separate list unrelated to standard IR. Standard IR means a player is out a minimum 4 weeks. Covid players could be out only 1 maybe 2 weeks.
Being on the NFL's Reserve-Covid list doesn't mean the player HAS Covid, it could also be that they were exposed and have to isolate for a period of time out of an abundance of caution. Using standard IR terms for these players further hurts Frenzy and SACD teams. I think we need to be really flexible to impose as little damage as possible. I propose that we have a Covid-IR with something along the criteria below:
As for Covid-Opt-Outs, I propose that we have a Covid-Opt-Out squad with the following terms: If the above generates support, I'll put up a poll for both leagues.

Re: Covid IR Spots
I would go for this with one exception... Players who opt out, you should be retrieved of this entire contact, salary and years.
Do this contacts still roll over next year as normal? What if you already have a bid going on a player, and before bidding is complete, a player goes out with Covid... Can you use this player as replacement if you win the bid? Clarification, any player with 1 year contract, can be cut free of charge when Covid player is activated?

As for active bidding, I think upon acquisition you could designate a player as a Covid-replacement for X player and the Covid IR rules would apply. If the player is signed to a 1 year contract at a salary at or below the Covid-IR player, that would mean no cap hit and immediate release when the Covid-IR player returns. If you assign a UFA multiple years or a contract above the Covid-IR player's contract, they would NOT be eligible for any salary cap relief, and teams could cut any other player as normal within 24 hours (at the normal cap hit penalty) to make room for the returning player.

Re: Covid IR Spots
[*] UFA's picked up as 1 year replacements at or below the Covid-IR players salary will be automatically cut without penalty the moment the NFL team removes the player off the NFL's Reserve-Covid list. Basically, pickup any UFA at or below the Covid players salary for a 1 year deal and you will not be penalized for the replacements cut when the Covid player is removed off the list by their NFL team
DDM NOTE: How do you designate a "replacement player"? I might have a player move to Covid-IR and win a bid on a player I plan to keep. Do you give a winning bid a "Covid Replacement" designation when you set Contract years OR do you give him that designation when you drop him? |
