2003 Rookie Mock Draft
Well now that the NFL Draft is complete I thought I'd get the football talk started with a rookie Mock Draft. Don't know how accurate this is as I haven't talked to anyone but this is how I could see the draft ending up as of now.
1.01 Rabid Llamas- (WR) Charlie Rogers NEEDS: WR, RB, TE Rogers is a no brainer pick in my opinion. Especially with the start salary of $800. Fills a significant need for the Llamas and most likely will be a superstar. 1.02 Philadelphia Freedom- (WR) Andre Johnson NEEDS: WR, QB An RB might be tempting here and would be a solid choice but AJ would fill a need and could be a stud in the future. Carr to Johnson will be heard a lot in the near future. 1.03 Urza's Ragers- (RB) Larry Johnson NEEDS: RB, WR, TE A dreaded PennState RB but hopefully LJ could erase that stigma. An RB that I see producing this year and for the future. Is in a great system. Even if Holmes is healthy (yeah, right) he's an old man. 1.04 Philadelphia Freedom- (RB) Willis McGahee NEEDS: WR, QB No WRs are worth picking up this early. There's a solid group of QBs to choose from but how can Philly pass up on McGahee? With Ahman contracted for a year and Lamont Jordan waiting on the DS Philly can afford to wait for McGahee. The Possibble threat of a backfield with Green, Jordan, and McGahee will be scary. 1.05 Parkwood Predators- (RB) Chris Brown NEEDS: TE Mike's team is stacked. No weaknesses really besides TE. However this is too high to draft one. I like Brown alot as I love brusing backs. Went to the perfect team for his style of running. Eddie is aging. 1.06 Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects- (QB) Byron Leftwich NEEDS: QB, RB I just love this kid. He's tough as nails and has tremendous talent. Definately fills a need. Brunell is aging so this pick could pay dividens early. 1.07 Nittany Dodgers- (RB) Justin Fargas NEEDS: WR, QB, RB The Dodgers could do anything with this pick. A WR is definately needed however there isn't one good enough for the first round. A QB could be a good choice with Gannon unsigned and Pennington with a 1 year deal. Edge and Martin could be solid but there are questions there. But Fargas could be an injury concern as well. I'm not sold on him even though I'm a Raider fan. 1.08 Wonder Mutts- (QB) Carson Palmer NEEDS: RB, TE, QB Mutts need an RB bad but the value is better at QB. Farve and Brady only have one year deals. Pickin up the #1 Pick overall is not a bad pick for the 8th. 1.09 Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects- (QB) Kyle Boller NEEDS: QB, RB, WR Like above would like an RB but the value isn't there. I wouldn't mind taking a second QB and hoping at leats one becomes a superstar. 1.10 Royal Hawaiian Opihi- (WR) Tyrone Calico NEEDS: WR, RB, TE McNair finally has a target to toss to. Opihi need a WR and at 1.10 this is a good pick I believe. Bryant Johnson would be a bad choice either. 1.11 Parkwood Predators- (TE) Jason Whitten NEEDS: TE MIke finally picks up a TE and a darn good one. COuld be a stud. Also have to consider Dallas Clark here too. 1.12 Jersey Toxic Waste- (RB) Onterrio Smith NEEDS: RB The most pressing need but the last pick in a year where rookie RBs aren't anything special. Smith has the talent and could out play Bennett. In summary: 1.01 Rabid Llamas- (WR) Charlie Rogers 1.02 Philadelphia Freedom- (WR) Andre Johnson 1.03 Urza's Ragers- (RB) Larry Johnson 1.04 Philadelphia Freedom- (RB) Willis McGahee 1.05 Parkwood Predators- (RB) Chris Brown 1.06 Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects- (QB) Byron Leftwich 1.07 Nittany Dodgers- (RB) Justin Fargas 1.08 Wonder Mutts- (QB) Carson Palmer 1.09 Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects- (QB) Kyle Boller 1.10 Royal Hawaiian Opihi- (WR) Tyrone Calico 1.11 Parkwood Predators- (TE) Jason Whitten 1.12 Jersey Toxic Waste- (RB) Onterrio Smith Well that's my draft. This year is difficult to gauge with no clear cut stud RBs. Even the top RBs have question marks. I think the FF Draft with be similar to the NFL draft. With three teams holding TWO 1st Rounders (Freedom, Predators, Insects). There will be lots of trading this year and some potential big movers. Don't know what to expect, except that I'm excited for the season to begin. Peace Out.

kudos!
Great offering! I haven't looked at the rosters enough to comment on your mock, but it was way cool to see some actual "news" on our website! How long until the UFA period begins? Man, gotta get this FF season going!!!

Mark those calendars, bidding opens this thursday!
Good work on the mock, though I can definately say that pick #7 will be different. |

After the NFL draft this past weekend I'd say predicting our draft will be just as difficult.
I have no idea which direction I'll go... so many rooks landed in what appears to be poor situations. Not the greatest draft class. So Brian, I should know this, but how long on the RFA period? And when are we planning the rookie draft?

Small Sample
Nice work on the Mock Frank!
Not that we have a huge sample to work with but to see 2 WR's go in the first two picks would be a huge difference from last year. The first WR last year went at 7 I think. We tend to put a lot of emphasis on the RB's, but Mike's point about the lack of quality here should make for some interesting picks and possible deals. |

As far as the draft, I would agree that this is going to be hard to predict. I have a hard enough time judging the quality of the players, and what I need on my team, much less looking at everyone else's team and guessing what they need in addition to what they are valuing the players at. |

I'll bet the RFA period wraps up before thw 31st... we should target the rookie draft for a few days after the last RFA sells

You could be right, but if I remember correctly, the RFA period began last year on 3/15. The last player was matched on 4/15 (according to the info on this board). The end did drag, so we could be done earlier. I have no problem moving it up at all if we are done early, but I am guessing (not betting) we won't have much time in between.

Great Mock Frank!
Too bad I dont have a pick in the first to look forward to. Anyway, I just wanted to clear up the RFA bidding rules since it starts soon. The rules state that "8. Players will be considered SOLD if a bid is not increased within 48 hours of the last bid." So this includes weekdays or weekends correct? I just wanted to be clear on this. A bid marked Friday 5pm PST will sell Sunday 5pm PST. I dont want those weekend bids slipping by me. BTW, what do I need to do if I wanted to change my team name? |

Good insights Frank, are you sure you're not a pyschic? I'll take Larry if he is there.

As for changing your team name... why? How about keeping some tradition ! I like the BDSC acronym! Seriously, if you just HAVE to change it... just let me know. It may take a while for me to update the league website and whatnot but it can be done. As for your board registration, e-mail me privately since I think I have to change that myself and I'll need a new password for you. Mike

Mike, you're right. I like the tradition I've built and changing team names at this point would detract from my previous accomplishments. Besides, I know everyone in the league gets pysched when they see the BDSC on their schedules. They know they'll be in for a dogfight!
BDSC kickin @ss and takin names........Well kinda taking names, we just need to find that damn pen again. How about you just leave a text message next time. Thanks. Come again. Anyone got a spare 1st round pick lying around? :p |

Glad to see other scrathing their heads on who to pick in the 1st round. Thought it was just me. And of course if I go with the "no brainer" Charlie Rogers, then I'm the proud owner of three Lion WRs. Sheesh.
Open to playin trade if anyone feels like making an offer for the #1 overall. Willing to part with Collins or Maddox if you want to bundle good value in the QB slot. If not, then, with the first pick in the 2003 draft the Rabid Llamas select.... |

Well Rich if you don't like Rogers than maybe I could take him off your hands. You have Az and Germane? Who cares?
Like the others I'm open to trading anyone of my first rounders. Maybe both if the offer is good enough. I really feel my 1.6 pick is a solid pick because of the salaries and talent that would be around. If not I'll be content on picking the next ROY! (Shockey shouldn't have won it!)

Just gotta say, this is one draft where I'm thrilled not to have to pick in the first round. Whooee, what a stinker!

Rough Draft
I figured I would stink and then benefit from having two of the first four picks. Now I just stink…
Anyhow, if anyone is interested the Freedom are always willing to talk trade and with so many holes to fill who knows. |
