3.06 K Nate Kaeding – San Diego
One of the benefits of having so many picks, I can take a flyer on a K with quite a good bit of talent to back-up (and eventually replace) Mike Vanderjagt. Kaeding stepped in as Iowa’s kicker in 2000 and has shown improvement every year. Kaeding has excellent leg strength (made 24 of 29 field goals longer than 40 yards) and is very accurate (made 41 of 45 field goals attempted in his last two years). He played his home games on a grass field and can kick in bad weather. Kaeding is also a very good athlete; in fact, he was a starting point guard in high school on a basketball team that won a state championship. In summary, there are no major weaknesses associated with this player (except of course that he will be playing for the Chargers).
Interestingly, he is not the highest drafted kicker in Frenzy history as it looks like that honor goes to Jeff Chandler (Urza’s Ragers in 2002 draft). Can’t argue too much here since this the first time a 37th pick has ever been made in a Frenzy draft and this is one player that I don’t have any problem making an active player as a back-up. |

Wow... had to bust out the player guide for this one. Can honestly say I did ZERO research on the kickers. But "my sources" say that he is clearly the best kicker in this year's class. Question is... couldn't you have got him with a later 3rd round pick or even 4th round pick?

Good question but since I was not sure I figured the trade down (adding pick 4.1) kind of eased my conscience on drafting him too early. Anyhow, what else can you do with 8 picks??

Excellent point Jim. If you are the Insects you can also get a bonafide Chris Perry for 8 picks (and Brian Westbrook).

Hey! That's a wonderful way to use 8 picks!
