Not a need pick with Leftwich but he has the size, arm strength, and ability to be a productive starting QB in the NFL. His game has shown steady improvement because he's done a fine job picking up the nuances of the position as he's gone from a thrower to a passer.
Matt ends up with the combo I targeted all along. My original draft plan was to take Lee Evans and pair him up with JP Losman for 5 years. A classic high risk high reward situation.
Losman is criticized for talking too cocky, but everything I've heard the kid say is what I want my QB to say. By many accounts, he has more athletic skills and a better release than any of the other QB's in the 04 class. He's either gonna live up to the potential of being the next Brett Favre, or he's gonna bust and be the nect Ryan Leaf.
Even with Rivers on the board, I think this was a great gutsy pick.
