Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
Be happy your first isn't in the 3rd after 7 second round comps!

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
One question: why is the amount bid over RFA tag used through all rounds? Shouldn't it be adjusted in later rounds?
I thought we took off the Comp Points used, and also take off the amount over, for the higher round RFA's? I mean if you have a 1st round RFA that is DECLINED, and use those points for 2nd round comp, why do you still get to use the overage for those points, for a 3rd round comp, gotten due to loss of 2nd round RFA? Shouldn't it only be based on the overage for the points being used?

Teams are sorted highest to lowest in each round based on these points, though if a team hasn't used comp points in a prior round (like the Burners in round 3) they jump ahead of the other teams. Since comp points can require multiple declined players, there isn't really any better method but to use total for all players over the tender then adjust the sort in subsequent rounds for teams that haven't yet used their points in a higher round sort. BTW, I had added the following a short while ago at the end of the draft order to indicate what the * and ** mean in rounds 3 and 4. Perhaps you haven't seen it yet. NOTE: teams that haven't used comp points for sort in a prior round get the higher pick * comp points used for sort in round 2 ** comp points used for sort in round 3

Well, there are other ways of course, opinions of whether they are better will vary obviously. Say you lost a single 1st round tender and he was 300cb over tender amount. I lost two 3rd rounder and a 4th rounder, and my overage totaled 400cb. we both get 2nd round comps, but I get higher pick, even I theoretically lost way more value than you did. Seems unfair for 1st pick, even more so each subsequent round if we both had multiple picks

There is no perfect system, however, when the rules were originally written it was when comp was on a per player basis, not points. With the point system it's really not possible to award the pick selection by the tender difference on 1 player since it's possible to combine 2, even 3 RFA losses into 1 comp pick. I think awarding the picks based on the totals over the tender per team, and adjusting for subsequent rounds for teams who haven't already received a comp pick (ex the Burners in rd 3, and possibly the Dogs should they decline to match Gates) is as fare as it gets.

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
Picks can be posted at any time, clock just won't start until the date the draft is scheduled to start

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
Draft officially begins Monday. If teams want to post their picks before then, it's a free country. But the clock doesn't start until Monday. No one is compelled to pick early.

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
I love living in Hawaii... but sometimes I feel like I miss stuff with the time zone change. Like today. I went to bed last night & PM'd the folks that are up next in the draft. Wake up this morning... and find I've missed 8 draft picks + a trade! lol

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
You will still be a bit behind in Cali, but not so bad...at least for now, you wake up in Hawaii...there is that...

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
I love the 3rd round... there are still SO MANY GOOD PLAYERS available... yet we all rank them so differently! Some 3rd round picks are based on a team need... others are the perceived "best player available"... and still others are longshots that you hope to develop. I could make 12 picks in the 3rd round and still not be satisfied I'd gotten all the players I wanted! #Ilovethedraft

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
I agree with you Jim. The problem is most of the time I don't have the space and years on the taxi squad for them to develop. Seems I always have 1 or 2 players on my active roster that probably shouldn't be there. After i pick these guys i have a hard time letting them go.

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
Yep. Me too. Especially with my "trade down & stockpile" strategy.
But I love the fact that we get to pick players EARLY in the NFL season. We get to watch & cheer for them in preseason and see if our faith will be rewarded. So with my 4 3rd round picks this year, I really only have one space (maybe two, but probably not) for these guys to fight it out for. Quote:

Note to self: NEVER (I repeat, NEVER) post a draft pick without choosing your own picture... because, well... there's Burt...

Oh, I love it! Especially because so many of our owners don't feel the need to post pics themselves!

Re: 2015 Rookie Draft Commentary
And as May 14th draws to a close, so does the Frenzy 3rd round... only Mike's Predators have the final pick left... and he'll probably be picking first thing in the AM.
Great job today, league! Way to be on top of things and get those picks in quickly. Could we possibly get through the whole 4th round tomorrow? Only the Shadow knows... |
