Exclamation IR question...

We're allowed to place players on IR as of midnight Sunday... the same time we have to declare rookie/RFA/FA contract years.

Here's my question: Can we move a rookie who's currently on IR for their team automatically into our IR, and still fill out an entire TS/PS? Or must we leave at least a TS spot open?

Not trying to skirt the rules... just need clarification!

The rules aren't clear, but it seems to me that the rules section is written with the assumption that the player is an active roster players, not a PS/TS player.

I'd say that if you want to put a rookie on IR, you can, but he'll be an active roster player and not a TS/PS player. All but one of his years and half his salary will count on your active roster. When you bring him off of IR, he goes to the active roster.

If some of the old-timers have other info (has this happened in the past?), I'm open to hearing other opinions.

Yes, to answer more specifically, yes you can do it and not hold a TS spot open.

Just be forewarned that he'll forever be an active roster player if you do it.

I believe that is the correct application.

To be on IR you have to be an active roster player in order to get a half a salary discount and an extra year before midnight. So essentially you cannot use the IR to get a "free TS spot."

However, rookie can still keep TS status and be sent to the IR but 1stthey have to be assigned TS status (which takes effect @ 12:01) and then stay on IR for 4 weeks (i think is minimum). However, the moment they are sent to IR it is also taken as a double promotion to active squad so if you take them off of IR and send them back to TS they receive the 4 week salary bump that comes with being on an active roster and being dropped to TS.

Not true the player can still be demoted to TS but he would have to take the 4 week salary bonus.

Also @ the time of declaration I believe he would have to have ALL his taxi squad players fit in under the year cap because if the IR rookie in order to keep TS status has to be delcared an TS player (which takes into effect @12:01) and then gets promoted to active/placed on IR.

If you allow someone to send a rookie to IR they essentially get a free holding spot for rookies.

Right, I was making an assumption he has one too many rookie players and therefore wanted to put him directly onto IR, never having set foot on the TS. So my answer is directed at that.

But yes, I agree, if you have space to put him on TS briefly, then move him to IR, he could go back to TS someday (with salary increase for weeks on active roster). I just thought it was pretty clear he didn't have room to do that, or else he wouldn't have asked the question in the first place

Correct. That's what I was wondering. It makes sense, though, that one would have to be ACTIVE to be on IR... so if I moved a player from the draft directly to IR, he would be active... and if he wanted to go back to TS, then the salary increase would apply.

Thanks for clearing it up, gang!

Yes, but if you wanted him to remain on TS he would have to fit under the TS years entering in-season FA.
