2007 Rookie Draft Order

I'll update this as the results finalize each week. The following draft positions are known at this time.

1 - Black Watch Royal Highlanders (4-10) *lost to BDSC*
2 - Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers (4-10) *defeated BWRH*
3 - Amish Rake Fighters (5-9)
4 - Parkwood Predators (from Nittany Dodgers) (7-7) *0-2 vs Preds & Freedom)*
5 - Parkwood Predators (7-7) *defeated Dodger, 0-2 vs Freedom*
6 - Philadelphia Freedom (7-7) *3-0 vs Preds & Dodgers*
7 - Wonder Mutts (8-6) *fewer total points than Toxic Waste (tied with 1st 2 tiebreakers)
8 - Jersey Toxic Waste (8-6) *higher total points than Mutts (tied with 1st 2 tiebreakers)
9 - Soap Box Derby Cars (8-6, 3rd Seed) (Semi-Final Loser with lower seed)
10 - Urza's Ragers (10-4, 1st seed) (Semi-Final Loser with higher seed)
11 - TBD (Frenzy Bowl Loser)
12 - TBD (Frenzy Bowl Champ)

- The Frenzy Bowl champ gets the #12 pick and the Frenzy Bowl runnerup gets the #11 pick.
- #9 and #10 pick go to the two playoff teams that lose in the first round of the playoffs based on their playoff seeding, with the lower seed getting the 9th pick.

I never thought my 4th highest point total (higher at the time) and .500 record would net a #4 overall choice.

Something to be said about finishing .500% and being in the Top 4 picks. Looks like I am in the playoffs or picking 6. BTW, Brian did I win our head to head game?

I have no idea what the draft looks like this year, but with the #4 and 5 picks in hand, we may be talking down the line.

Just an update to this...

If the Opihi lose tonight, the Freedom will win the East division. The Predators will then draft 4, Dodgers 5, and Opihi 6 based on total points as a tie breakers (since none of the 3 teams swept either of the other teams).

If the Opihi pull out the win tonight, the Freedom will draft 6, with the Dodgers at 4 and Preds at 5 as shown (the Freedom swept the Dodgers and Preds, while the Preds beat the Dodgers).

Just confirming, since I have absolutely no stake in this, that we are not doing the tie breaking within the division method prior to tie breaking out of the division? I thought that is what we did for the wildcard, but I'm going strictly off memory here.

The way I applied the tie breaking last year, and this year, is a H2H sweep of all tied teams eliminates the 1st team, failure of a H2H sweep resorts to total points which is the next tie breaker. I'm not looking at it divisionally at all, (didn't last year either).

So in the case of the OPIHI and the FREEDOM... let's see if I understand this scenario. Opihi win and we're in the playoffs with the Division title. If we lose, then we have the same record as the Freedom. The Opihi & Freedom split their games. So don't we then look to division record? In which case the Freedom get the nod. I'm up on total points, but that only becomes the tie breaker if we have identical division records, right? The scenario you listed above (about going from H2H straight to total point) only works for the draft pick status, correct?

Yes, I was referring specifically to draft pick tie breakers.

As for the division, the tie breakers are overall record, H2H record, division record, then total points.

If by some stroke of misfortune you are to lose tonight, Matt would win the division based on the 3rd tie-breaker, which is overall division record.

I might add, that over in the Central Division, if SBDC holds on to win tonight, they win the division based on the 4th tiebreaker, which is total points! All 3 teams would finish 8-6, they each split against each other, and they each have 4-2 division records!

Yup, something I think I argued for in the past is that the seeding should maybe be based on overall record, instead of awarding the top 3 seeds to division winners.

In my local, the division winners were guarenteed of nothing more than homefield in 1 game (6/12 make it, top 2 guarenteed a bye, the final 4 being the 3rd div winner and 3 top wild cards, with seeding of those 4 based on overall record). In fact my team as one of the Wild Cards ended up the 3rd seed because of a better record than the 3rd division winner, and it made a differnece too, since I woulda lost as the 4 seed this past week!

Anyhow, I've been in your position before, and it seems as if we penalize the top seed by not guarenteeing them facing the qualifying team with the worst record, which in this case would be 1 of the other division winners (if you look back, I think this has been the case in several other years as well). Best of luck my man.

Yeah, that pretty much a booby prize for being the #1 seed since the Wildcard is the #2 team in the league (based on record).

Now I know what's it has been like to be a good team in the east for the last few years.

looking back at things, since we instituted the 4 team format, the wild card team has had a better record than at least 1 if not 2 division winners each and every year... honestly, that's a trend we should look at in the off-season.

How about this for a silver lining; would you rather play them in the first round with home field advantage, or in the championship without the 7 point head start (or whatever it is)?

I would agree with that.

With only 4 teams out of 12 making the playoffs, I almost think the divisions are more of a detriment to fairness than the added benefit of rivalries they provide. How many times since we've gone to divisions has a team not made the playoffs than a team that won their own division?

I don't see a vote on it in the Frenzy at all, though I find the thread in SAC'D. I think that was a SAC'D only change.

It is still not a reason to support it in my opinion. All you'd have to do is go back and look at the schedule and find one week where the Insects would have had a win, or the Ragers a loss had their schedules been swapped to convince me the luck of the schedule shouldn't make a difference in post season advantage for one team or another.

Just my opinion, but we've been down this road before.

The glaring statistic here is that the 4th seeded wild card team should have been seeded 2nd for the past 3 years in a row (counting this year), and 3rd the year before that.

That's what I think we need to fix. Give the 1 seed home field vs. the 4 seed and guarentee a playoff berth to the division winners, but seed the teams based on overall record. (meaning the wild card could earn the 2 seed and home field for their 1st game, which would have happened each of the past 3 years).

I'm just glad the glaring statistic here was what you stated and not that the Dodgers were twice seeded higher than they deserved.

I do actually fear LT and also, I don't do too well against divisional foes according to my record. Dodgers can show you my lifetime divisional record and it ain't pretty. Also, I lost to you just a couple of weeks ago...as long as LT doesn't do his normal thing I may have a chance.
