Thanks for the heads up but I am pretty sure Roddy White is currently on the active roster (moved there at the end of last year).

Brian, you're wrong here IMO. These players are not released if they have years remaining on their deal. They go to the active roster automatically.

Think about it, their contracts just can't go *poof* with years remaining just because they're no longer TS eligible.

The owner needs to take preemptive action and move them (via trade or cut) if the player has another year or 2 remaining on their deal and the owner doesn't want them on their active roster.

Mike... so if an owner wants to dump them, they can with no cap hit. Otherwise, they automatically move to active roster, right? Here's the only part in the rules I found:
Quote:
The cap penalty applies only to the Active Roster, as there is no salary cap for the Taxi Squad.

That is how I've always handled it in the past.

And there is only no cap hit if they release a TS player by 3/31 and the player was NEVER activated. Once a player gets activated, the contract gets guarenteed. Even if they're demoted the next day.

Can you find any of the previous threads that discussed this? There were only a couple players I could find last year that fell into this category, and while there were threads posted in the FA forum announcing their release, that does not make it clear for me.

I know in previous years there was a thread that indicated what players were going to fall into this category, and that thread I recall indicated what would happen assuming no action. I'd prefer to see that thread if anyone can locate it before deciding.

Lastly, since I posted 10+ days ago that it would be handled this way, and the Derby Cars and Mutts have both had connection issues, I'm not going to change the rules on that at the last minute. I'm willing to allow them both some flexibility considering the ambiguity in the rule. I'd assume the Derby Cars don't want Frye on their active roster, so I'm not going to stick him with the cap hit assuming he doesn't cut him today. I don't know what the Mutts would want to do with Morency. I'll cut Everett just for clarities' sake.

I don't have time to search the old threads now... just look at it logically. It makes no sense for a TS contract with years remaining to go *poof* just because the player is no longer TS eligible. This isn't like the rookie draft where contracts haven't been declared. The player is under contract. The contract stands unless cut or traded.

As for Cars and Mutts, PM them, tell them they if the don't want the involved players they need to cut them the next time they login and there will be no penalty (unless the player's contract was already guarenteed).

Pretty simple solution there.

Makes sense. Let's just add clarification to the rules for the future.

If you want to cut a TS player before he automatically becomes active on April 1st, do so by 3/31 and there will be no cap hit!

Like I said in SAC'D, I don't really care either way. Despite the fact there are actually "logical" arguments on both sides, to me this is a six of one, half a dozen of the other type of issue. The vocal majority prefers the auot-promote option. That's fine.

Jason, can you add that clarification to the rules doc?

Thanks.

There is no "logical" argument to have them be released. Your passive aggressivness with me is very transparent Brian. Relax. This is supposed to be for fun.

Then why do you appear to be trying to be a pain in my ass?

There are logical arguments for it. But its not a big deal, and to me there are plusses and minuses to both sides, so I don't need to get into a 10 page thread debating the merits. However, to be repeated told that if I just looked at it "logically", the solution would be obvious reads to me that I'm just an idiot who can't think clearly.

Hmm, did I touch a nerve?

I feel as I've gotten nothing but the cold shoulder from you since Friday and you know it too. Deny it all you want, but your just lying to yourself if you do.

You can try to cover up your actions in thread, but your PMs were very unwelcoming. To totally disrespect a founding owner with a 7 year history in the league as you have is shameful.

I don't want to rock the boat, I told you that in my PM, but frankly, push me, and I'll fight back like a cornered animal.

Back on point, pointing out an area where your interpretation is WRONG is being a PAIN IN YOUR ASS? Are you really that sensitive to constructively being corrected?

You wanna battle, I'll battle. Lets take it out in the open though. Stop feigning who and what you really are.

Otherwise, you best and start treating me with the fair level of respect I know I've earned in this league.

Yow - sers.

As rules-guys, I'm just gonna address the rules here real quickly (as I'm busy at work) and be more comprehensive later tonight. We're going with "automatically promote". Since it's been ambigious until now, no one will take any penalties related to this. If people wanted to let their guy go, but he gets automatically promoted tonight, they can cut them without penalty tomorrow. Just post promptly that you want to do so.

Jim, make sure to automatically promote TS players finishing their 3rd year.

For the record, I made up a sheet with arguments for each side as I was analyzing the dilemma. I found 4 arguments for "automatically promote" and 1 for "automatically cut".

I'm pm'ing you my phone number, and you want to clear this up, then give me a call.

If not, when I volunteered to comish the league, along with the others who stepped forward to take on additional responsibilities to keep things together, this is not the crap I signed up for.

I have nothing to say to you that can't be said in the open. If you don't want to discuss it here, then BACK OFF and chill out. You flat out gave me a cold shoulder reaction and you know it. Sorry to mess up your plans son, but I'm back and I'm fighting for my friends team with everything I have.

I'm running Brett's team until he returns, and I'm gonna run it damn well.

So that's the crux of your complaint? You think I had mad plans to replace Brett, and so you think I'm pissed that you are running his team and now I can't replace him? If that was the case, then why do you think I would have waited until about a week before the season to post something as inocuous as "if Brett doesn't show soon, we may need to think of alternatives" (paraphrasing). If I wanted Brett out, I would have done something much sooner, and something much more open. If I wanted Brett out, and had reservations about you coming in WHY WOULD I ASK YOU IF YOU KNEW HOW TO GET AHOLD OF BRETT?

I'm the illogical one?

You want respect because you're a foudning father? I haven't had a chance to give you respect, Mike. I can't even come to you and say "hey, let's talk about what's going on." As soon as I respond in some fashion other than "fantastic Mike, the league wasn't the same without you gracing us" somehow means I am disrespecting you. Sorry to impose that I had a question or two before I could totally adjust to what I saw as a drastic change is such a short period of time.

Bottom line, your expectations and mine are different. We know each other well enough to know that neither one of us is going to enjoy butting heads for the summer. Like you said, this is supposed to be fun, and that will be fun for neither of us. Thus, in the off season thread, more than one person volunteer to take the role of "whatever is necessary." I volunteered for comish because I felt this league ran itself for the most part, and that would be easy. That's changed, so someone else can take the comish mantle, and I'll take whatever responsibility they've volunteered for. This dynamic won't work though.

Oh please Brian. Why not tell them about whatever "concerns" or "questions" you have about me running Brett's team. In your first cold PM you stated you have "questions." I didn't want to rock the boat, I came here to help a friend, and although the reaction I got from you felt like you slammed a door in my face. I still sent you a very respectful, detailed response that should have alieviated any concerns you might have. Your response was stating that while some of your questions were answered, new ones arose.

This isn't an interview process. I'm not applying for your permission to be in the league I helped found to cover for an existing member. I'm helping an ill friend. I know the committment, I know the rules as good as anyone, and I know how to run a team in this league. You know it, I know it, so why the heck do I need to answer your questions?

None of the other owners gave me the reaction you did.

I don't care if you like me, this isn't kumbaya boy scout camp. But you can respect me, and you KNOW you didn't. A simple, "oh cool, glad to know you've got Brett's back" would have sufficed. Instead you chose to question me and treat me with complete disrespect. You have an agenda, I know it, you know it. I've called you out on it. The Minnesota bloc can SUCK IT UP. This isn't entirely YOUR league. It's ALL 12 owners league.

Your veiled threat of turning over your Commish reigns at the first sign of controversy, controversy YOU'RE responsible for no less is LAUGHABLE. Man up Brian. You just lost a fight. Get over it.

Now despite all of this, I'm content to end this, now that I've said my peace. I'll be more than happy (and more determined than ever) to setup Brett's team to take you on out on the FF field where it all counts. Bad blood makes for some damn good rivalries.

See you on gameday.
