So apparently this is not valid trade, as the powers that be suggested both trades should be even.

So we have a gentleman's agreement - I pick his player, and we trade straight up for Wilson after RFA trade ban has lifted

This deal was nixed after discussion. Burt will be drafting the guy Mike Six wants and then trading him for the RFA at the end of the off-season.

To verify so I can get a better understanding of the RFA No-Trade rule.

This trade was cancelled because both trades were not even. - not because an RFA player was involved. The "future" trade portion would be allowed if Part1 and Part2 would have both been reasonably even.

So... an RFA player can be included in a trade today as a Part1 & Part2 deal, with the condition that both parts are even? It would just mean that the RFA portion of the deal would not go into effect until after the RFA no-trade deadline.

Basically this would be a trade today for draft picks (or players) with an official (on the books) gentlemen's agreement to a second part of the deal?

Yes but the team trading the RFA has to keep them on their cap throughout the off-season. The trade wouldn’t take effect until the first day of the in-season period.

Exactly. You win or retain a RFA and you take on that cap responsibility for the remainder of the off-season and the only out is to cut the player. The day the In-Season starts you can trade or IR the player if necessary.

I tried to go down the RFA track last season and was denied...so unless there is a rule change - this is what we have...you can protest and even get unruly...RFA caps matter!!!

So if he wants rookie to have 5 years, I need room either on my TS/PS or Active roster for not only salary, but years also?

If i only have room on my active roster, can he still put rookie on his TS without penalty?

Great question. If you put a rookie on your roster, he can still be traded... but can he be dropped back to the TS? I think the rules cover that. I think it’s permissible. He’d just have to take the salary increase for moving him back to TS.
