Tackled for a Loss: NFL Schedule Released and RFA Notes

The NFL released it¡¦s 2002 schedule last Thursday. This will be the first time were the season will open on a Thursday night (September 5) as the 49ers and Giants square off. All football fans like to look to see where their favorite team will be playing from week to week but Fantasy Football owners look for something else.

The Fantasy Football owner tends to play particular attention to the bye schedule. With the inclusion of a 32nd team the NFL has decided to condense it bye schedule to 8 weeks (with 4 teams off per week). This can be good because FF playoff games will not be disrupted by bye games, however with 4 teams off per week it is possible that a team¡¦s depth could be tested.

The following is an overview of this year¡¦s bye¡¦s which will start in week 3 and run through week 10:

WEEK 3: Baltimore, Jacksonville, Oakland, Pittsburgh
WEEK 4: Atlanta, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Washington
WEEK 5: Detroit, Houston, Minnesota, Seattle
WEEK 6: Arizona, Chicago, N.Y. Jets, Philadelphia
WEEK 7: Cincinnati, New England, N.Y. Giants, Tennessee
WEEK 8: Green Bay, Miami, St. Louis, San Diego
WEEK 9: Carolina, Denver, Kansas City, New Orleans
WEEK 10: Buffalo, Cleveland, Dallas, Tampa Bay

RFA Notes (bid numbers based on 4/2/02 at noon)
„h Through the first 36 hours of the RFA period, there have been 15 players bid on. The total amount of money bid is $21,200. The 12 teams in the league had a total of $50,069 (based on the Cap App) available so this means that 42% of the available cap space has being bid at this point.
„h The player receiving the highest offer to date has been Marshall Faulk ($3,100). His agent Mo Coyne has been in contact with a number of teams and has been happy with the interest thus far. ¡§We felt going into this period that Marshall was the premiere player available and we are thinking that a $4,000 offer is not out of line. Marshall had 2,147 total yards, 21 TD¡¦s and 83 receptions last year and this level of play does not come cheap. He wants more coin and Mo Coyne is going to get it for him.¡¨
