Saints 2.4 QB Adrian McPherson New Orleans

I'm excited about this one. I've targeted McPherson in 2 drafts now, and finally decided that pick 2.4 of the Frenzy draft is the place to take him. A risk to be sure, and a risk most in the fantasy football world don't seem to be willing to take this high, but I believe his potential is beyond any that has come through in a long, long time.

McPherson is not only an incredible athlete, but also an incredible Quarterback. In his short stints at FSU and the AFL, he has shown the agility and quickness of Michael Vick and the accuracy of Peyton Manning. His arm strength has no comparison in the NFL - while working out for Haslett and the Saints, this 20 year old kid stood flat footed, legs shoulder width apart, and threw the ball 70 yards in the air without taking a single step. That, my friends, is simply incredible!

Steve DeBerg, McPherson's AFL coach, said that McPherson has as much talent as anyone he has ever seen. "He is a taller version of Michael Vick" said DeBerg. That comment led one NFL scout at the combine to remark that the comparison to Vick "was an insult" to McPherson, because "his arm is much stronger than that".

Because of off the field problems, Adrian has not played alot of top level football. He has some mental development ahead of him, but when you consider the person standing in front of him is Aaron Brooks - there's not alot to overcome on his way to the starting job. I understand the theft admission and gambling allegations pose the aforementioned risks, but I also recognize that the kid was 17 years old at the time. I just can't put too much weight in mistakes made at that age, because 10 years ago I was doing some pretty stupid things as well. I think he's going to grab the opportunity in front of him and run with it.

As I said, I love the pick. In fact, even if Alex Smith or Aaron Rodgers were available here I would have taken McPherson (or traded down to take him later). Favre likely has only a year or two left in him, and I'm glad to add McPherson to my young QB stable of Boller and Henson!

:thanks

Well, that simplified one of my next two picks as McPhearson would have been gone at 2.5. I figured with Losman and Leftwich I could have given him a chance to develop.

Great pick in my mind!

At 2.4, we are quickly leaving the "high risk" category. The number of players selected at this point and later that have made more than temporary splashes in the league is quite small.

Yet I get bombed for picking a Kicker I can use at pick 20!

The 1.18 region hasn't been loaded with talent either, but if I'm going to get bombed for drafting an insurance policy, you can get bombed for drafting a kicker.

A bit early, especially in light of the A-Train signing.
getting bombed? Seriously?

Saying I thought you took him a bit early is ripping the pick? Or is it the A-Train part?

Well, if you look at what I said in the thread, you'll see I never really ripped the pick. You acknowledged yourself that the pick was a reach, but justified it with a myriad of reasons.

You say I took Barber too soon, seemingly ignoring the inherant risk in waiting 9 picks to insure a key part of my present and future offesive hopes. It didn't seem likely that Barber would be there in 9 picks considering where he was taken in SAC'D, and the fact that RBs in unclear RB situations were taken as high as 1.7.

The only thing I really bombed you for as far as Nugent was your contention that kickers play a significant role in the Predators success, which I think I thoroughly refuted.

You two need to get a room already..........:WinkKiss

Back to the thread, I like Adrian alot and I was very surprised he fell as far as he did in the draft. His measurables are surely there. We'll see if his head is on straight.

Learning under Aaron Brooks though.........

What concerns me about Adrian isn't the team he landed in (I think he could thrive in that offense), but the city itself.

For a person who has character issues and judgment problems (gambling and otherwise), New Orleans is the 2nd last place you'd want them to be (Vegas being the worst).

If he can get his head on straight, I say he can beat Brooks for the job in a couple years, if not, you wasted the 23rd, pick, big whoop, his upside is worth the risk.

I like the pick as well. I didn't know how high he'd go (I wondered if I'd have a chance at him with 2.8), but now I know.
