Does the 3 year rule apply to them, too? Do all 2005 PS draftees need to be activated or cut?
(If so, I want to cut QB Dan Orlovsky prior to the midnight deadline. But I'm leaving for my son's soccer practice & won't be home until after that deadline.) I'll also need to know when it comes to automatically activating practice squad players. OR... do we just let them stay on the squad until their original contracts expire? |

I initially thought they were restricted the same as TS, however, upon reflection, I do believe he is correct. I haven't looked at the rules per se, but I remember the PS section of the Roster App not having the 3 year cutoff like the TS does, and I think that was a reflection of what Brian pointed out. Long story short, not need to cut you PS players if you don't want.

It wouldn't make sense to me to have PS have the same 3 year rule as it takes some of those players 3 years to even crack the playing field. I would vote for a change if that wasn't the case.

cool. To me it makes sense to have the opportunity to keep them on the practice squad as long as they have a contract... since most of them will probably never see the light of day on an active roster.

This was the whole point of the practice squad. We realized back then that 4th rounders would never make it on the taxi squad, and for these guys, even three years doesn't always give us enough time to see if they are going to turn out. The limit of allowing only one per year was the compromise to limit the great benefit of being able to keep them for up to five years.
