One other thing to consider might be the idea of expansion. I know we discussed this briefly a few years ago but I thought it might be a good time to bring it up again. I have two guys in my local league that are interested in a cap/contract league and I offered to share our rules (since we have really hammered a great set over the years). Then it occured to me that maybe we should consider adding 2 or 4 more teams. If nothing else this might increase my chances of eventually having a winning season!!

I have a couple of issues I'd need addressed before I agreed to expansion. The first is scarcity of certain positional players. Right now we have 12 teams, and usually don't have a hard time finding starters for most teams. Sure, some teams are short handed when it comes to RBs, but that happens in every league relatively. However, last season I had 4 starting QBs on my roster. If SD deals Brees, I could have 5 in 2005. If we had two teams, available QBs become tight, and if we added 4, there would be only 2 starting QBs per team, and if someone had a backup on their DS, and someone starter goes down, they are down to one. I've never been in a league that large, so I don't know how these shortages are handled other than either going with team QB, or just getting screwed, but I'm not a fan of either option. Team QB totally screws our rookie draft since QB prospects are taken off the board. Just getting screwed if you aren't properly covered sucks too, because it would suck to lose a QB, but get raked over the coals in FA bidding for Rodney Peete because the league knows you need him or you won't have any QB to play.

I also think bringing in new teams would be difficult to work out, unless the new teams agreed they would be in a building project for a couple of years until they could catch up. I wouldn't be a fan of drafting players off of other teams rosters just to get them talent.

I agree that there are a number of issues that need to be worked out and something would need to be done to ensure that the new owners did not have extreme expectations heading in. I was just interested in seeing if there was any desire to talk about it.

I know I initially intorduced the idea of expanding a year or so ago, but in retrospect, I'm not so certain I'd be in favor of it.

We have a pretty special thing going in the Frenzy right now, and 12 teams seems to be the ideal size.

14 doesn't allow for even divisions, and 16 is too diluted IMO.

As of this moment, I concur with Brian, I'd prefer we stay at 12.

I too think 12 teams is the ideal size. I'm not for expansion....yet.

Once the OPIHI win a championship, then we can expand... until then, it's hard enough with 12 Frenzy teams!

I am fine with 12 teams just figured I would throw it out there.

I could go either way but if we agreed to expansion then I would push for a change in our starting lineups. We have a 16 team local league where we start 1QB, 1RB, 2WR, 1RB/WR, 1TE, 1K, 1Def. We changed from 2 RBs to 1 RB and 1 flex (WR/RB). It reduces the shortage of RBs. I think we would need something similiar if we agreed to expansion. Just to reiterate, I am happy with the 12 teams we have now but would be open to the idea of expansion.

We've put alot of work into tailoring the Frenzy to a 12-team league. I'd feel quite a bit of resistance to expansion in the near future.

The downside of expansion has been well explained above. What's the upside of expansion? Because I really don't see any. 12 teams is as big as I can see a league getting and still working, from a talent and divisional alignment standpoint.

All good points against an expansion and I agree with all of them especially with a league like ours, expansion will just kill the talent pool out there. One thing that the Dodgers mentioned was getting screwed if a player gets hurt, SCREWED is the perfect word.

yah i think expansion would hurt the league more then help, unless we dramatically change dour roster and/or lineup rules. But I wouldnt be opposed to it if we had a solid plan.
