Default Showtime! Week 11 Wrap-up

On the "Road to the Play-offs!"

Let’s see how we did, coming down to the home stretch.

East
Royal Hawaiian Opihi (7-4) at the Indiana Undead (5-6).

Opihi opened up on the Undead with a dominant performance. The only problem is, did the Opihi use it all up in this game, when they should be savings it for the Predators in week 14? They stayed a game behind the Predators for the East division lead. Undead are not technically out of the race for the play-offs, but their season took a blow here. They need a lot of help to make the play-offs now.

Prediction: I see Opihi pulling this one out because of Undead’s injury and match-up issues in RB & QB

** Actual:Opihi 171.35 to Undead 109.75

Parkwood Predators (8-3) hosting Philadelphia Freedom (4-7):

Freedom was let down by their receivers (all but Bruce). Preds just had too much from his QB & RBs.

This will effectively knock Freedom out of the race for the play-offs.

Prediction: Scary thing is, if Garrad plays as he did last weekend, Freedom can pull this one out. But, I gotta go with the Predators in this one. Preds stay one game ahead of Opihi.

** Actual: Predators 146.7 – Freedom 86.85

MidWest
Jersey Toxic Waste (4-7) at Soap Box Derby Cars (3-8):

Muhammad kept up his rolling this week with nearly another 30 points. Driver also closed in on the 30 mark. Edge’s 200+ yard game pushed him past Manning (and McNabb) for the week. Derby Cars were also eliminated from any play-off potential. Though they won, Waste may also have been eliminated this week from the play-off race (I personally did not run ALL the options, but it’s REALLY thin to be able to get in)

Prediction: Both host two of the top 3 QBs in the league, but only 1 RB each (worth while). I see Waste with a little better match-up in this one. Waste by less then 10

** Actual: Waste 159 to Derby Cars 116.55

Wonder Mutts (9-2) take their league best record into fact Liquid Sword (7-4):

Mutts rolled with Favre, Dominic Davis & Antonio Gates. Swords pulled in Culpepper, but were severely hurt by Ahman’s injury.
Prediction: I think the Mutts will continue to roll. Favre is a little worse than C-Pepper, even at RB, but they have this WR named TO…

** Actual: Mutts 128.60 to Swords 111.35

West
Bay Area Bloodsucking Insects (4-7) at Brain Dead Squirrel Chasers (4-7):

Look, I was joking about ‘throwing the game.’ You didn’t need to take me seriously, Gnats. You started Warner, who wasn’t starting and left off one RB, one WR, the TE & K. That’s not even funny. I know you’re looking forward to next year, but at least field a team. I wasn’t going to say anything, but this is something that’s a touchy subject with me.
Prediction: Moss is out and Witten can’t do it by himself against Alexander and Portis…Insects

** Actual: Gnats 37.3 to Squirrel Chasers 74.65

Urza’s Ragers (6-5) at Nittany Dodgers (5-6):

Ragers, even with the trade, were caught a little off guard by the Dodgers. They were let down by Jamal’s injury at the beginning of the game. Dodgers had no player who exploded for points this week, but five players in double digits, which is a nice solid performance (hey, didn’t I mention something about the Steelers the last two weeks??). Ragers took a double blow, since now the Dodgers beat them head2head. Ragers need to be careful not to leave the door open for the Dodgers to sneak up and steal the West title from them (because if that happens, Ragers may be out of the play-offs due to better records in the other divisions).
Prediction: Even with return of Brees, I think if Delhomme puts up half decent numbers (they will be playing from behind AGAIN), I see Dodgers pulling off another upset. They have more depth at receiving corp (including TE) than Ragers, plus Pittsburgh DT is going up against Cincy!

** Actual: Ragers 88.75 to Dodgers 105.20

So, in the recap: Each division has some battles for the division lead going on. Opihi/Predators, Mutts/Swords and Ragers/Dodgers. The big issue is, if you don’t win the division, there are two of these top teams that will be sitting at home in week 15 instead of playing for the championship.

I’m ignoring the Gnats game since it wasn’t really a match-up (sorry Squirrel Chasers). So, other than that, I called them all correct, even my upset pick!

The Mutts seem to have some kind of voodoo curse on my Liquid Swords. Each game has seen a Swords player injured early in the game. Steve McNair in the IFFL (week 7) and Ahman Green in the Frenzy (week 11). The 7-11 curse?

I know that BABI made a post on Sunday afternoon saying that they forgot to submit a lineup. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and trust that this is the truth, rather than intentionally throwing the game in order to get a higher draft pick in 2005.

I'm totally with you on this... I LOVE the offensive production... and hope my Opihi have bigger and better things to come... ESPECIALLY IN WEEK 14! It's still a tough road to the championship bracket of the playoffs... but we islanders are determined!!!

I think this is where I start free falling, it started a little bit earlier last year but let's keep our fingers crossed that I don't.

Didn't see that. My apologies Insects.:bow

Obviously, everyone now knows that's a hot spot for me. Honest mistake is easily forgiven. Heck, I make them all the time.

Thanks for pointing this out, Jim
