I purchased Ryan Torain during 2010 preseason UFA period. He is going into his 3rd NFL season. Am I able to assign him to my taxi squad after I assign his years by the August 2010 declaration deadline? Is there a cyberbuck penalty for consecutive weeks on former teams roster?

hmmmmm..I guess I always assumed you could only place your drafted rookies on the TS, but the rules do not say that, so it sounds like you can place him on your TS. I am not sure about the active weeks penalty, as this is a new contract.....I would say no penalty, unless you activate him, then send him back down.

We should probably consider the rules on the Practice Squad, too - they make it a point to spell out that ONLY players from the annual draft are eligible and list all sorts of other regulations. By comparison, the TS rules don't mention any of the same considerations, so I would interpret the rules as allowing ANY player with 0-3 years experience to be placed on TS.
The writer's intent is much harder to figure out with promotion / demotion penalties. What if I have a guy on TS, promote him, play him a bunch of weeks, then cut him, re-sign him, place him again on TS, and avoid the promotion / demotion penalty that way? The penalties should still apply, in my opinion. |

The intent from the very beginning is that ONLY DRAFTED PLAYERS can be put on the TS or PS squads. If you acquire a player via trade (who was drafted & put on TS/PS) then you can put him on your squad. But UFA's are not eligible for TS/PS. That's why on the roster app, the word "eligible" or "ineligible" is there.
I'll look for the rules link. But this is how it's always been. And, in my opinion... should remain. It puts much more value in the draft & decisions that have to be made on your PS/TS squads. |

I'll have to relook at them. But I can tell you unequivocally, we have NEVER allowed players to be placed on the TS unless they've been drafted. Period. Those who have been commenting about this are new to the league (last 2 years or less). Everyone else in the Frenzy will attest that this was the way things are done. If the rules are unclear, they need to be clarified.
To treat it any other way would be a major departure from how this league has been set up... and the strategy used in all prior draft picks. |

This has been how it has been in SAC'd since its inception also. I have always assumed the rules were specific, as this has never come up before.

Besides, who would track if a player has ever played on an active roster to assign a penalty or not, thats one big rats nests to keep track of.
I agree it should only be for drafted players, thats always how we have done it. |

Ok, I thought it may be a joke at first, but you guys seem serious. Your argument is “this is how we do it”? We have our rules, conspicuously posted. We wouldn’t we abide by them? I make decisions based on those rules. Those rules tell me Edelman, Nelson, Torrain are TS-eligible. You are telling me that there is some unwritten intent to the rules that modifies their content and that intent is known to some, but not to others. Seriously, does this make sense to you?!

We're just at the start of the process. If you've been bidding on players based on the assumption that they'd be TS eligible, then let's talk about a one-time amnesty on those specific 3 players you've acquired. That would be fair. You can drop them without cap hit. However, it has never been a policy of the league to allow non-drafted players to be on the TS. Sorry for the unclarity in the rules. We all do this for fun, not for pay. We've been trying to get the rules more in line with practice. This is obviously something that needs to be clarified. If we want to change the rules to ALLOW any players be put on the TS squad, we'll need to make a rules suggestion and have a time for voting. |

I am by no means questioning your sincerity or advocating against your position. I am only highlighting that the rules as posted likely contradict what you guys state. The intent you previously referred to is there for the PS rules, so I hope you can see how it’s absence from the TS rules further reinforced my logic.
Anyway, I don't want to make this a bigger deal than it already is. I understand this is the way of the land, will fully abide by it and adjust strategy. I do respectfully request, however, to be allowed to return Edelman and Nelson to the UFA pool without a penalty. I could not have been expected to know about the restrictions imposed on them prior to making my bids. Please consider granting the same privilege to John for Torrain if he requests it. |

I have no problem with what Michael is asking. I guess the problem with the rules is that Preds founded both leagues, wrote the Rules, and was around up until 2 years ago to set straight what was the intent of the rules...the majority of the teams owners have also been around for quite a while, so we all play by what we have always assumed were the way the rules were written... also no one seems to have had the time to update the rules in Frenzy since 2005 - so its nice John has taken this over...maybe we should start a thread to clarify rules that are ambiguous like this one...

When you get around to updating the rules doc, language needs to be added specifying that only rookies and existing TS/PS players are eligible to be assigned to the Taxi and Practice Squads. UFA's, RFA's, etc are ineligible for the TS.
Mike[/quote] This is the quote I found on the forum that deals with my question. I don't ask questions in an effort to exploit loopholes but to better understand Frenzy rules as a newcomer. The answers I received make sense and will help me with bid decisions in the future. |

John, that's exactly the kind of information (Mike's quote) that is present in the league "archives" (ie. message boards) that hasn't made it into the official rules.
So... as commissioner, I hereby grant amnesty to the Reds' pick up of Edelman & Nelson. They are back into the UFA pool (I'll post on their threads) and there are no penalties for the Reds. If John wants the same privilege for Torrain, so be it. Please post. From here on in... LET IT BE KNOWN... that only DRAFTED ROOKIES are eligible to be put on the TS/PS squads. John... let's add that language to the updated rules doc we've been working on. |

I'm interested in cutting both RTorain and EDoucett without penalty because of the taxi squad addition discusion. Notice I made my last bid on Doucett before I asked the question but since the bidding is the 72 hour limit (bid mde Friday) the auction for Doucett is still on going. I haven't been stalling to see how open auctions turn out...I have been hoping for a higher bid from another owner to take Doucett out of the equation since his name hadn't come up. My intenton was to put Doucett on my taxi squad if I couldn't reduce my active roster salary to handle the final cyberbuck price I paid to obtain him.

Fine. Consider it done.
This ends the "uncertainty" surrounding the TS/PS squad. No other players will be granted amnesty. Let's move forward! |

Further, only the team that drafts a player can also place the player on the PS.
