Philadelphia Freedom is on a distinguished road
Default 1.1 WR Charles Rogers, Detroit

The Freedom made the move to grab the first pick in the 2003 draft and are proud announce that they have selected Charles Rogers, WR, Detroit Lions

Team owner Matt Marshall was quoted as saying, “Going into this draft we felt that our biggest need as an organization was at WR. We have never had a true number one guy and we feel that Charles Rogers can be that player. We feel he is a tremendously gifted athlete with a rare combination of size AND speed.”

Rogers measures in at 6’2 ½” and 204 lbs. He also possesses great hands and leaping ability and is able to use his size very well to ward off defending corners. Is very hard to control coming off the line of scrimmage due to his strength and size and likes to be aggressive. He looks good on paper and he looks even better on the field. During his career at Michigan State, Rogers hauled in 135 receptions for 2,821 yards (20.9 avg.) and 27 touchdowns in only 24 games as a Spartan. He caught touchdown passes in 13-consecutive games to set an NCAA record.

From all reports, Rogers is expected to be the Lions #1 WR if all plays out according to plan. In fact, many feel he is a sure-fire Pro-Bowler and is the best keeper prospect out of 2003 draft-at any position.
