Allow me to clarify what the "Rookie Bonuses" actually are. They are not simply applied to rookies. Technically, we should be calling it their 'ROOKIE CONTRACT BONUS,' as it lasts as long as their original rookie contract. Once a player either: a) is cut, not claimed & later picked up... or b) finishes out his original contract... then they are no longer eligible for bonuses.
This rule was made to equalize the playing field for teams that get a "steal" in the draft... so, over time, they end up paying a more equitable salary.
Again, this is only for DRAFTED PLAYERS only. If you trade a drafted player to another team, his rookie contract/salary (and potential future bonus tie-ins) also go along to the new owner.
