(I think it was back in 1991, last week of the season, and the Bears were up a game on the Lions, but Detroit had the tie-breaker. Detroit played Buffalo, who should have destroyed them, but Marv Levy sat all of his starters for the game (having clinched home field throughout the playoffs), and it still took OT for the Lions to beat the Bills' subs by a FG. Then on Monday night, the Bears got destroyed by the 49ers, who were out to show the world that they were the best team in the NFL at that moment even though they were going to miss the playoffs. And the MNF crew had a camera on Lions coach Wayne Fontes, who was just waiting to celebrate his division championship. And he lit up a cigar in celebration, on camera, and I don't think it was even midway through the 3rd Qtr. Remember that?
Doggone that made me mad: celebrating a division crown practically handed to him by Buffalo, and not even waiting until the game was over. I've never forgiven him for that.
Now I don't want to be like Wayne Fontes... who won I think exactly 1 playoff game with Barry Sanders. So I'm not celebrating prematurely. See you back here tomorrow!)
